Have you ever served on a jury?

Tomorrow will be my first time. Honestly I was shocked to be selected. Hundreds of people either were given hardship exemptions or simply were dismissed after being interviewed by the judge. Then after 14 of us were seated and answered biographical questions the prosecutor and defense lawyer took turns challenging people and having them excused. I was hoping they would get rid of me but nope.
They still have to find a 14th juror so those of us already seated don't have to report until 11am tomorrow because they have to go through another batch of prospective jurors. It will be nice to sleep later than 5:30.
Still I've never been on a jury before so I don't know what to expect. So far the process has been a lot of hurry up and wait. The judge let us keep and use our phones as long as we weren't researching the case. By the time I got out of there at 4:30pm on Wednesday my phone was down to 5%. I ordered a portable charger to bring with me. I will pack a lunch so I don't have to spend money at a downtown restaurant.
I just hope that he dismisses us at 4:30 again so I can get back here for an hour of tutoring at 5. I'm not heartbroken about missing regular work but I will be annoyed if I can't get the tutoring done.
Have you served on a jury before?

Not in real life but on a movie... can't remember what one, back in Vancouver, 30 years ago.

I was selected once and it was the most boring case ever. It was a civil suit involving minor injuries from a car crash. It was days of long, boring testimony and since the plaintiffs didn't speak English, every question and answer had to be translated into Spanish. It was a horrible experience.

During the time I was getting used to my first job in NYC and learning to be a marine insurance adjuster I got called to jury duty. I sat around for two miserable weeks in benches and finally they told us we could go home and thank you the perp had confessed/
