Our Funny Little Sweet Pea

We have nicknames for the twins. We used them privately and affectionately.
Harper's nickname is Sweet Pea. She is just so tiny. She is just so funny, naturally funny. Where she comes up with some of this stuff we will never know.
Today was a nice early spring day. Willow, who we affectionately refer to as Honey Bunny, told Grandpa that she would like to go for a walk around the block. So out they went for their walk. Grandpa told me that when they come to the corner, before they cross the street, he asks them to stop and see if there are any cars coming.
Harper puts her hand flat across her eyebrows and looks both ways. She then reports 'no cars coming Grandpa, it is safe' and while holding her sister's hand, she and Grandpa cross the street.
He told me this and we both had a good little chuckle over it. Kids sure are funny when they want to be, without even trying.

That is so adorable! And I'm sure she wasn't even trying to be funny. She was very serious about protecting her grandpa!

He has drilled it into their little heads to be careful when crossing the street.
They hold hands as they walk down the street, with him just a step behind them.
They usually chat away and sometimes sing as they walk.
He wants them to practice these safe ways so that when they go off to school when they are 4 they are safe.
But that little Harper, she sure is a hoot some days, today was just one of those days.

So sweet. I miss having little grandchildren, Jack is 13 already. But who knows we may have a new great grandchild in the next year or so. Art link letter used to say Kids Say the Darndest things and it's so true.

@Juliaacv I couldn't have said it any better. I usually say grandchildren our our reward for being parents and when all three of mine were teenagers at the same time I dreamed of it lol

They will be late starting school because their birthday is in January.
They will turn 4 next January but not start JK until the following September, which will be September 2026.
They will likely be the oldest and the biggest in the class, compared to those born towards the end of the calendar year.
Grandpa is trying to teach them to protect each other and always remain safe.

They are so fortunate to have someone who loves them so much, care for them every day. So many children have to grow up in a daycare setting while their parents work. Having a grandparent that cares so much for them means everything.

That was our son and daughter-in-law's choice, to have Grandpa there with them until they begin school.
He feels so blessed, as he missed so much while our son was growing up because he was working long hours to keep a roof over our heads, and food on the table and clothes on our backs. He came 'to life' on the weekends when we were all together laughing and having fun together, now he is able to do that 5 days a week.

That is so cute and they're learning a good lesson about safely crossing the street while on their walk with grandpa. Yes, kids are naturally funny. I love the nicknames you have for the girls.
