Are there any odd foods you really like?

Right now I have the words "beets," as said by Key and Peele in one of their sketches, going though my head. Maybe I'll provide a link.
I just did a quick grocery run. Two odd (to some) foods I picked up were canned hearts of palm and canned beets. I enjoy both, slathered in Marie's blue cheese dressing.
I also like Brussels sprouts (but rarely make them myself) as well as slightly under-cooked asparagus (I DO make that here sometimes).
Are there certain foods you like that are "off the beaten path"?

Not that I can think of. I put salt on my watermelon, if that counts.

@TheHorse — I don’t do it much anymore, but it was (is) a southern tradition.

@kaylachan Yeah. I have heard that I try not to be wearing a white shirt when I eat them

I love beets both pickled and warm, Brussels sprouts especially roasted, asparagus and artichokes. By the way Longhorn has the most delicious Brussels sprouts!! So good. We eat them as an appetizer every time we go there.

Fermented fish. Stinky, but good stuff. Gefilte fish is another good one. It's made of deboned fish. A Jewish delicacy with a lot of historical context.

@lilacskies I don't know! My dad used to eat the stuff when he watched Perry Mason, starring Raymond Burr.

The thing about different types of foods is that we all grew up eating different things from other people in other places. What was normal for me was probably not normal for you or anyone else...it's just mostly all about background, heritage, people who cook vs. people who never cook, etc.
Oddities? Hmm...I love parsnips. My grandmothers both fixed them for us often. And you definitely grabbed my attention with the undercooked asparagus. I love pickled herring. Beets, yes, but I prefer cooking them from fresh ones vs. the canned ones. And I loved Brussel Sprouts before they were so popular.

Beets. Yuck. Do you like potato gnocchi? I'm going to get some frozen gnocchi from Walmart. Hope you have a good day.
