Little annoyances

It’s funny how little things get on your nerves after a while. We currently have a lodger, an Italian mathematician, staying with us for a few months. He’s a lovely chap, very friendly and enthusiastic, clean and tidy and generally very little trouble. He just has one slightly annoying habit. When he opens the kitchen drawer to get some cutlery, he never quite closes it. And this drawer is immediately below the counter top where we always make toast, sandwiches etc. So if we’re not careful crumbs will fall into the drawer and get among the cutlery which is a pain to clear out. It’s such a tiny thing and really insignificant in the great scheme of things but sometimes I really do want to say ‘Why don’t you just shut the bloody drawer?!’ There, feeling better now I’ve got it off my chest All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

I can SO relate to this. Best probably to rant here if he's so nice in other ways. I remember one couch-sitting who didn't actually stay with us long-term but visited most weekends and stayed a night. She mentioned she hated how people scuffed along in slippers. It was only much later I realised she was probably talking about me!! Edit: In my defence they weren't slippers but probably crocs.

That's pretty funny because I hate that too - and guess what, my slippers have stretched or something so they're now a bit loose and scuff along the floor which I hate - and it's me doing it!! If I want to avoid it I have to do a funny sort of goose step! Either that or get new slippers I guess but they are far from worn out so I can't do that!

@Fleura I didn't work out that I was doing it for ages. Then it suddenly struck me.

Maybe just put a post it note up, that way you won't have to say anything. It is hard living with other people.

That is SO funny because my husband had the habit of NEVER completely closing a drawer or cabinet door. Made me nuts. Hang in there and have a good day.

Pretty does that with kitchen drawers and cabinet doors. They're almost shut but never pushed quite closed. I go through every day closing the things she's left barely open. I've asked and asked why she can't close them all the way but she never will. It's annoying!

That is a good question. Why doesn't he close it? Lol!
