Sometimes I like to try something a little different for dinner. The snag is that Little One is very resistant to trying anything that isn’t purely meat based (she has totally not embraced the ‘plant-based foods’ movement ) We used to eat more vegetarian meals before she came along. Anyway the other day she was out so I decided to try a recipe I had saved up for quite a while. I came across it in a National Trust magazine and it was for pear and Wensleydale quiche. Sounded intriguing so I gave it a try. The result was quite nice and definitely something I would make again if I happened to have a glut of pears to deal with. Sadly this is something that rarely happens as our pear trees struggle to produce anything! Big One wasn’t all that keen either but it made us ‘adults’ dinner for two days along with some potatoes. It was pleasant enough but as a taste sensation the whole was not greater then the sum of the parts – a juicy ripe pear with a slice of Wensleydale cheese was more of a treat! For info: Wensleydale is a white, crumbly, hard cheese made in Wensleydale in Yorkshire. Kind of a bit like a harder version of Feta but made with cow's milk.
