That's what Denmark is doing so I had read. I wonder how long it will be before that happens here in the US. It could happen. Are you still writing letters?
The decision will end 400 years of the company's letter service, and postboxes will disappear from June.

I hate to say this, but the way the postal, ahem, service is going these days, it’s like the post office WANTS to be dismantled. We didn’t have all this automation when I worked there, and we managed a nationwide 97% delivery success. Today, with automation and advancements in all of the machinery, there are only FOUR locales in the entire country at 90% or above. And no, I don’t write letters anymore. When I go up to the VA today for my bone density scan I’ll get my prescriptions refilled and pick them up in person…because the last time they were mailed to me, the post office mis-scanned them and ended up not delivering them on time.

Yes the difference being the people..I am guessing that might be it..people do not work like we used to Four Walls..not at all..they just don't care to do a good job. Yes my hand hurts too much to write letters. I know right. I no longer depend on the post office..its sad.

@RebeccasFarm — when I first started working there I was a go-getter. About three hours into my first shift on the machine a UNION STEWARD came over to me and told me to stop working so hard. So no, it’s not so much the people “don’t work like we used to,” they’re just more blatant about it now.

I think a lot of people will need to use postal boxes. They seem expensive too.

I have forever loved the postal service, but I realize people don't need to use them as much (especially with all the other options these days). The way it's been going - I wouldn't be surprised if they shut it all down - though it's really a shame. Our regular mail dude has been the best . . . he is smart to be retiring in the next couple months. I have written letters forever, but in the past couple or so decades it's been about emails. Otherwise it's texting.

I have feared for a good while that the postal system was falling apart.

It's extremely rare for Pretty or I to send anything by mail. We do get a few bills by mail during the month. We also get a few packages but those don't come via the regular mail service, they come via postal shipping services. The regular mail is so inefficient that they can dismantle it any time and it won't affect anything else going on in this country. (It took over a month for a package sent via regular mail to reach us here last month. That's ridiculous!) I can't even remember the last time I sent or received a regular letter through the mail. Most people call or text. (I prefer texts.)

@RebeccasFarm I don't like getting "stuck" trying to think of some way to get the other person off the phone without seeming to be rude. People want to just keep talking. With texts, I can just stop talking when I run out of anything to say. My sister will keep telling me the same things over and over again and won't let me hang up.

I've never written a letter before. I'm surprised anyone does anymore, and I find that very cute. Denmark is trying to cut costs it seems.

Saw that on the news here. I guess it is coming to us all eventually. I know over here the number of letters posted had dropped considerably

I have not written a letter for a long time. But I do receive paper mail from time to time, from different companies, my apartment's management office. Don't think they will close down the postal office in the foreseeable future.
