Got scared of the OS upgrade on cell phone

It is late in the night. The OS ..of OPPO ...suddenly started upgrading... The word OPPO would not go....even when I tried to switch it off. My mind wondered what I have to salvage, and what I may not be able to salvage, if the device gives way. And then I panicked. I have oh so many chores lined up starting this Monday. Including payment of advance tax. I requested Sai Baba, please help. And then the screen saver returned. So...when there is system updating on...shouldn't there be a message saying system is being updated do not fidget with other buttons or switches...whatever. Maybe most of the people are far more knowledgeable. But...I did panic.

I don't blame you. When I reboot my laptop if there is a update it says do not turn off until the update is done,

At least it informs you that an update is in progress. Here ...there was no information just the Oppo logo...I was also scared whether it would get heated and burst...and what to do at such late hour.

I think many of us panic in this situation. I once thought my phone was hacked.

@vandana7 You did not think of picking it up and throwing it away as far as possible so that does not explode in your hand ?

@mayka123 No. I was kinda...where should I throw it, without causing anybody harm...if it is well past midnight, you cannot decide easily where to throw...going out is not an option, because the lift door is locked, and so is the staircase grill to prevent stray dogs.

I know your concerns when updating the OS on your phone. At least you should have a backup, because to update the OS requires 50% battery and also requires enough free space to install several file systems and applications. Of course, in updating the system will do cleaning and rewriting of the ROM and system files. If the update fails, a boot loop can occur.

@vandana7 I don't mean to scare you, but what I'm saying is based on what I've experienced.

No reason to worry, I'll send all the pictures of me again if you lose them. I'm glad it was just updating... It would annoy me if my phone updated without letting me know as it does the update.

Oh I already lost all the pictures of yours and pony's and many others...my system crashed last year. I don't store them on cell phone for sure. LOL So you agree, I was extremely reasonable... All sort of thoughts ran in my mind...all the impending chores, and numbers of people involved and delays likely... And also fear that the device was hacked And also fear that the battery would burn and there could be fire At that later hour, it was not possible for me to disturb anybody to find out what is happening. I really really panicked. LOL. Lucky I believe in Sai Baba, and he helped me almost immediately after remembering his name.

@DaddyEvil You Americans are type of friends who will be delighted if the phone bursts in my hand... But will say, if only she had asked...I was always there to help... Sigh...some mothers do have them. LOL

@vandana7 Yes, I agree, a device should always tell you before it updates. My devices usually ask me if they can update and when they can run the update. I usually tell them they can update and tell them a time when I expect to be asleep so they don't bother me while running the updates. I keep a list on one of my ancient phones of friends and their phone numbers and addresses, if I have them. I've never needed that list but I know I can always Bluetooth the list to my phone if I do need them. (You should keep a list of names and phone numbers written down so you can put them into a new phone if something happens to your smartphone.) Okay, I can tell you how to be aware if your phone might catch fire... Once in a while, if you can, open your phone and LOOK at the battery. If the battery starts looking like it is getting thicker in the middle, you need to replace the battery or buy a new phone. That thickening of the battery means something is going wrong inside it and it COULD explode and burn... It doesn't mean it WILL explode and burn, just that it could do that. If your phone doesn't open so you can see the battery, you can still feel the phone getting hot when you charge it. As long as the phone cools off when you unplug it, it's fine. If it stays hot after you unplug it, buy a new phone. I'm not always available when you need something, but if I can, you know I will explain what is happening and how to fix it when you do get ahold of me. I love you as my friend and don't want anything bad to happen to you.

They should have a kiosk for updating. If you want these features...please insert your device, and it will be updated. Because it was late in the night, and I have a lot lined up this month and the next, I panicked. In the night, you cannot find out from other tech folks. Right? And then is the device likely to burst? That fear was also there. The software should inform updating is in progress.

Have you ever faced such a situation? For me it was very stressful, especially since it was late in the night, and I could not disturb anybody to know what is happening.

@vandana7 I've had problems with a photo programme and was worried I'd lose my photos but it all came good in the end.

My Oppo only do an update when I sleep so by the time I am awake, usually it is done after that.

That must have been stressful, especially at night! Unexpected software updates can be nerve-wracking, especially when the phone or the screen gets frozen. It’s natural to panic and most will in those moments especially when you think you might lose important data in the smartphone. Luckily everything turned out ell and thankfully, Sai Baba heard your request. Better messaging during the updates could help in avoiding worry and confusion. Not all are tech wizards and these things could be unsettling for most when they happen suddenly. Hopefully, your phone runs smoothly now, and you can focus on your Monday tasks without any more scares or worries. It is also important to backup data perhaps in a drive. Take care!

Extremely. All sort of thoughts ran in my mind. My aunt is returning from the US this 20th. I have to complete somethings for her. How will she communicate? Then there is advance tax last date 15th...I have to communicate with the auditor. There is some repair work in progress in my house...that too....and some appointments with electricians for servicing air conditioners, (summer) at my aunt's place...appointment with Internet (Airtel) folks....regarding functioning of Internet....oh boy...if their numbers disappear, I will be in soup...all those thoughts simply overwhelmed me. Added to that was the fear whether the phone is hacked, or whether it is going to burn or burst since it cannot be switched off. Damn scary.
