Went through a bin that I had put a lot of my grandmother's stuff in that my daughter sent me years ago. I had looked at some of it, but then just put the papers and pictures in the bin for later, slid it under my bed, and forgot about it.
I never knew my father, he was killed in a car wreck when I was 10 months old. I found letters to my grandmother from him before the Army, during the Army days, and after he met and married my mother. They were married almost 2 years before I was born. Before he went into the Army he went to Columbia college in Chicago. Took classes in Directing, writing, acting and production. He acted in a play that toured there in Chicago. So many things I am learning about him that I never knew. He had a poem published in a magazine..but could not find the poem.
Looking through this bin is like going through a time capsule. Some newspaper clippings with prices of food back in the 70's and 80's. So interesing. Took me all afternoon to get to the Grit Magazines. Always loved reading the Grit Magazine when I was in High School.
Anyway, tonight Tom made home made Chili...really hit the spot.

Sometimes we need some space before we explore old family memories.

That's a good way to get to know him a little.
