The Essential Oil Diffuser Might Be The Culprit

I've been telling you all this year 2.5 (2.5 months) that I've been having congestion and allergy-type symptoms and not feeling quite myself. Hubby too. We were wondering how much snot a body can hold. Well, I got to thinking and wondered about the essential oil diffuser hubby started running about the first of this year. We couldn't use it when we had a cat because it's toxic to cats. They say use 5-7 drops of oil, but we couldn't smell it so we've been using much more than that. Then I read an article online that said even if you can't smell it, your body is absorbing it. So I wondered if the essential oil diffuser might be causing our congestion and allergy symptoms. Hubby turned it off Friday and yesterday morning and this morning I already feel better with little to no congestion. Who knew such a harmless simple thing might be the problem?

I'm glad y'all caught that! At my last job the ventilation for the building wasn't good, causing my breathing problems, within weeks of quitting I could breathe clearly.

I was really sick at school before covid. The ventilation was old and musty, and each and every room seemed to be running either a diffuser, a Scentsy pot, or other wax melt, or even some of those plug ins. Because of the pandemic they cleaned our hvac system, and have installed some kind of black light sanitizer in the units, and I am much healthier. What we breathe really can affect our health.

Now that you know you could try a different scent. It might be what you were using

We've been using various scents. Lavender. Peppermint. Ylang-Ylang. Clove.

Me!! I avoid the fragrance aisle like the plague because there’s usually something there that’ll get my skin to itching. Hope that is the culprit and an easy fix!!

It could very well be the culprit of your issue. Our daughter-in-law uses one, but she only uses it intermittently and always lets the house air out before firing it up again.

Glad you got to the bottom of it. I'd have never thought of the diffuser as the culprit

and they promote those diffusers on the contrary, to make us believe everything will be better; from our breathing to everything. i'm glad you're better. quite a shocker this one.

Fragrance, even natural fragrance like essential oils can cause allergic reactions. It sounds as if you are on the right track. When you need what the oils are providing, it probably will not make you sick, but if it is more than you need your body will fight back. At least that is what it sounds like is happening right now.

That's interesting. I never thought that would happen, but I guess if you are sensitive to the scent or you overuse it .it could

It makes sense to me. Either an allergic reaction or there is something in those oils we shouldn't actually have. Glad you seem to have figureed it out.
