Gay As A Grape (Mylot Exclusive #1864)

It's another warm, ((58F, 14C)) nearly Spring Pleasant Valley Sunday here in the Neon Fun Jungle, Radio Rangers. Before my MAGA friends get all excited and bent out of shape, I should explain that "Gay As A Grape" is not a brand new way to describe our most openly Gay ((And Stupid)) President ever, DonOld Trump. Nor is it a brand new Woke slogan designed to draw more tourists to California, especially the wine regions. That is a good thing because Lord knows that California doesn't need any more new tourists ((Have you ever tried to drive anywhere out there? The whole place is full already!)), Gay or straight, but that doesn't stop them from trying to get new ones. What "Gay As A Grape" is, is a reminder from the Universe that we, the current residents of the present day ((Sunday, March 9,2025, in most of these timelines)), do not own the language or the culture. We are merely their caretakers for the next generation. This is rental property, and we should be treating it with care! Furthermore, the Universe is under no obligation to make us feel comfortable. And/Or make sense. To be a bit more concrete about it, "Gay As A Grape," is a line from a commercial for Carnu, a car wax made by Johnson Wax from 1938 to around 1992, embedded in an episode of "Fibber McGee And Molly" that was broadcast on Tuesday, June 9, 1942. I have linked the episode below, but, since I don't expect many of you, my 226.4 Billion Loyal Dedicated Daily Readers, to be interested in listening to the whole 30 minutes, I will tell you that the pertinent material begins at about the 18:25 mark and lasts maybe 15 seconds. I suppose that what most of my point may be is that is that the meanings of words change occasionally and "Gay As A Grape," was never intended to be offensive or Woke nor was it when when Johnson Wax used it in a commercial. But you might be offended if you encounter it today without keeping that perspective in mind. Another example of this kind of thing can be found in another Carnu commercial. This time from television, in 1955. It contains the phrase, "Makes blacks blacker than black." It, too, is linked below, because it sounds a little racist and it's another thing you wouldn't be surprised to hear at a Trump Rally today. Plus, it contains some classic cars some of you might want to see ((A 1954 Plymouth & Chevy & Studebaker)). Coincidently enough, Trae and Corey mentioned this very topic ((How the word Gay has changed meanings over the years and it's really nothing to get hung about)) in last week's "Puttin on Airs w/ Trae Crowder & Corey Forrester" Podcast. "Puttin on Airs" is my second favorite Podcast, so it, too, is linked below and y'all should give it a listen. With that in mind, let's go to Taco Tuesday, June 9, 1942, some mysterious unspecified day in 1955 and Friday of last week to see what the Cosmic Universal Anthem Vintage Commercials And Current PodCast Of The Month Club Anthem Vintage Commercials And Current PodCast for today are. Enjoy and stay fancy, mother luckers! ---------That is a paraphrase of Corey's usual "Puttin on Airs" sign-off line. I wanted to use his actual phrasing ((I wish I had his way with words)) but that would cause the MyLot Censor to pull her hair out and then cancel this post. And we can't have that. ************* Fibber McGee & Molly radio show 6/9/42 Pot Roast Dinner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buPo7Le4kfE&list=PL9YqesNNwsxM3Kprfenr4snU8C9iB8jz-&index=34 ----------------------------------- 1955 Johnson Wac Carnu Commercial -featuring a Studebaker OsbornTramain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4Gla9APxB4 ----------------------------------- Foreign Food Translations +| Oscar Controversy | Puttin on Airs w/ Trae Crowder & Corey Forrester Puttin On Airs Podcast 9.91K subscribers

Wasn’t there complaints about Ajax cleaning like a white tornado being offensive? Or was that just when Gil-Scott Heron mentioned it in “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.” BTW, has there been an FCC edict against Marvin Gaye yet?
