What's the Worst Place You Ever Lived?

OceanTiara @RebeccasFarm got me to remembering the worst place I ever lived. I was 12 years old and my parents had just gotten divorced. My mom got custody of me and we moved two hours away from my Dad and Brother to the inner city of Covington, KY, a very poor rough city in Northern Kentucky near Cincinnati. My mom had never worked a job until after the divorce, so she got a job in a factory and we got a basement apartment in somebody's house. It was horrible! It wasn't a finished basement, still all concrete, and had dark purple paint on the bathroom and bedroom concrete walls and dark paneling in the kitchen and living room. There were no windows. It was very dark. My mom didn't have any furniture so it was a furnished apartment with awful scratchy furniture. There was only one bed so I had to share it with my mom. There were roaches. Hundreds upon hundreds of roaches. When you clicked on a light fixture, they would run and scatter by the dozens. You could hear their little feet running there were so many of them. I don't think I slept the whole time we lived there for fear of the roaches crawling up in the bed and crawling into my ears and nose. What's the worst place you ever lived?

Nothing really horrible. Did live above my landlord once. That's not a good idea

The only place that comes to mind is our brief stay in Chula Vista, California which was 3 miles from the Mexican border when I was a kid. My dad got stationed to Miramar in the navy and it was an apartment complex. We were only there a few months when gunfire rang out in the atrium, or whatever you called it, and that was it. We relocated to Scripp's Ranch in San Diego and never looked back. It was closer to the base anyway.

It was over fifty years ago. I stayed in a room that was surrounded by thick undergrowth To make it worse, there were poisonous snakes aplenty. I could here rustling sounds at night. I waited for daybreak to feel safe.

I didn't live in a worst place right now but in our country , HappyLand in Tondo Manila is the worst place to live and other slum places in our country because it's very dirty there a lot of garbages in the sea and the unpleasant smell there.

I think the worst place was probably when we lived with a friend. It was just a very bad environment but other than that we haven't really lived in a horrible place.

Not sure, I'd have to think about that one. Nothing like that though fortunately. I lived in a couple of apartments though that were poorly insulated.

I am fortunate to live in a good and safe place, not extravagant and posh and all that but enough for us

That sounds like an incredibly difficult and unsettling experience, especially at 12 years old. The combination of the sudden move, the stark living conditions, and the overwhelming roach infestation must have been incredibly stressful.
