Change My Day Method

It's something I do to get through each day. It is not a cure, but a catch all. In all my 'therapy' sessions, I have been lucky to have this method shared with me. It does kind of help, of course, it doesn't change reality, what does? But if you can reframe the day, it goes a lot easier on you. The "catch it, check it, change it" technique helps manage unhelpful thoughts and improve mental well-being. First, catch it by noticing when negative thoughts arise and labeling them. Next, check it by examining the evidence for and against these thoughts. Ask yourself if there’s proof they are true and consider alternative perspectives. Then, change it by reframing the negative thought into a more positive one. Focus on solutions and remind yourself of your strengths. With practice, this technique can enhance resilience, improve sleep, and boost overall mood. Hope your stress is lighter today.

Aha, turn those lemons into "lemonade." Reframing the negative and finding a positive is always best lest we delve deeper into a bummed-out state. Sometimes when things go off the rails one has nothing left to do but laugh and get on with it. Better than the alternative...cry. Good advice!

My pastor and her husband are trying to find four positive things each morning and evening. I like the thought of that, and also your thought of reframing a situation into a positive.

Wish I could be more like that . . . I admit I'm not so positive that way . When I get negative thoughts, I take positive action - not necessarily to fix the negative thoughts - but to distract myself from them. Hopefully it means I will have gotten something done and can feel good about that at least .

That’s a great way to put it reframing doesn’t change reality, but it makes it easier to navigate. The "catch it, check it, change it" technique is such a simple yet powerful tool for managing thoughts. I’ve found that just the act of questioning negative thoughts can reduce their weight. It’s amazing how much our perspective shapes our experience. With consistent practice, this method can become second nature, making daily stress more manageable. Thanks for sharing this hope today brings you some moments of peace and clarity!

You would definitely need practice for that. For me there is always evidence for the negative thinking so it's hard to come back from it. I tried to make my mother in law understand once and it didn't work out so well.
