The Fires

I can’t believe the damage from the wildfires here (Oklahoma). Our governor even lost his ranch. The wind late last week spread the fires pretty quickly in three different cities. I do know someone who lost their home, but they have such a great attitude (they do have insurance), it’s amazing. They were just grateful they got their animals out safely. Of course, dozens of people died in the tornadoes in other parts of the U.S. this week which is just tragic. How did your area fare?

Thank goodness my area was not harmed by the storms that hit the east part of Louisiana where I have relatives who live near the stricken areas.

Tornadoes touched down in Missouri but none, I think, close to us. There were 12 deaths statewide reported so far. They're still digging out a couple of towns. I'm glad the fires didn't get close to you.

Are you clear from all tornado threats now?

@AmbiePam Supposedly, for now. We didn't have any tornado alerts going off here.

We had lots of high wind, like 70 mph or so. Lots of semi's turned over in our area. We are under a fire watch, as we are every spring. I have not heard of any nearby, though. Some trees broken up. Further north and west of me there was a car pile up caused by lack of visibility from blowing dust. I think the last I heard 71 vehicles were involved and 8 people were killed.

It is early for wildfires to be burning, I hope that they get them under control.

It's so sad to hear about all the damage and deaths related to those wildfires and the tornadoes. Must be pretty scary knowing you might have to evacuate. We've had some really bad wind for a few days but nothing that caused too many problems.

Glad most people you know weren:t directly affected. Outside of it being windy and a short period of heavy rain. We got nothing. Parts of the area were under a tornado watch though.

It is devastating when harm is done to those that you know. Good you were safe.

We rarely have anything major disasters here although some bushfires are pretty bad. There has been a lot of major flooding over on the east coast.

I hadn't even heard about the fires there. But I'm glad you are okay. We were supposed to get hit bad by the storms, but only got about 4 hours total and nothing was hurt.

My area mostly had some big wind damage. One particular area about 45 miles from me really got smacked hard but thankfully no lives were lost!! I always worry about your area. I have a school friend from college that lives about 25 miles from you. They have lost their home twice. They have a big storm shelter now that they keep stocked and ready and it has saved them more than once.
