This is a true story told to me by my mother (I now share it with you in rhyme) "The Shrimptail Date" My mom was a beautiful woman In her younger days before Dad. The subject of many male interests. A date, any time, could be had. Once she had a date with a suitor; A very respectable guy. He took her to his favorite restaurant Where shrimp was the best you could buy. The food was prepared by an expert. Delicious and tasty, it was. The shrimp was fried crispy and perfect And just the way her mother does. Her mother taught her to be prudent, And never to waste any food. "If edible, eat all you're given. You might find it tastes very good." Those shrimptails were fried very crispy So Mom, she did eat them also. Her date's plate was also now empty Except for the shrimptails that showed. "What happened to all of your shrimptails?" He asked with surprise on his face. "I ate them." She said, very curious At what he'd eventually say. "You've got to be kidding me, Doris! I can't believe you ate those tails!" (She pointed to her balled-up napkin...) "They'll go to my cat without fail." That shock on his face seemed to lessen; Her pocketed napkin in place, She said, "Did you think that I ate them? A joke!... Put a smile on that face!" My quick-thinking mother was stalwart. No change of expression, she showed. The truth would be told to her family... To him, it would never be told. I wish I had been a "fly on the wall" on that date. But at that time I wasn't even a "twinkle in her eye". Thanks for the comment Honey 143.
