Some things are better in the past.

Today we went to Abilene, Ks. to the Eisenhower Museum. I have been there a few times, usually with school kids, so I did not get to absorb all of the exhibits. Also, there have been lots of upgrades over the years.
I was left with a great wistful feeling for statesmen politicians. People who are well educated and dedicated to the overall good of the country. I am so impressed with President Eisenhower and his wife Mamie. If you get a chance, the museum is a great place to visit and learn about history. I am touched by how important family was in forming each of them.
We went to a restaurant that we have enjoyed in the past, but it is not as good anymore and is quite pricey. I will not recommend it. Only good thing is that it is served family style and there is often enough food to take home for another meal. It had been strictly family owned and managed for many years with a very limited menu. When the previous owners wanted to retire there was no family left. It has joined with another corporation and in my opinion the atmosphere and the quality have gone downhill while the prices have gone up steeply.
The third stop on our journey to Abilene was the Russell Stover factory store. I got some good bargains on chocolate candy. In some ways it is much like hitting Walmart on the day after a holiday and stocking up. I did buy a Christmas tin of chocolates, but even better is a three pound box of what they call "bloopers"--less than perfect, but still delicious chocolate. I brought it home and put it in the freezer as I am prone to over eat.
Bob improvised on how to get home, so we drove through some of our old stomping grounds. We saw some wide open spaces. It was sunny and nice.
It is hard to believe that Spring Break is almost over.
It is hard to believe that we have been married for twenty seven years.

I stopped by there in September 2020 but it was still closed due to covid. I enjoyed walking around the grounds, however. Beautiful place.

We did not check out the grounds due to having a lunch reservation. We could have gone back and we will plan another trip soon. I was wondering if you had been there. I think you would like the museum if you are ever in the area again. Lots of other museums in Abilene as well.

@FourWalls I thought that song was about Abilene Texas. More pavement in OKC makes it hotter, I think.

@GardenGerty — then there was that song that George Hamilton IV did…”Abilene, Abilene, prettiest town I’ve ever seen.” It was so warm in Oklahoma City when I was there, but by the time I got to Abilene it was darn COLD and there was a threat of sn*w westward (this was in September), so I turned east and came home.

I'm not usually interested in that type of museum and neither is Pretty. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I always love browsing through libraries.
Keeping extra candy around is difficult with Pretty... I eat candy slowly and like to have many different kinds on hand. I'll eat one or two pieces and then leave the rest for another time. Pretty, on the other hand, will eat everything she buys and then come looking for my candy. She always tells me I eat things too slowly.

I know I eat things too quickly. Always a downfall when I go to my brother's house as they have all kinds of wrapped candy sitting around.

@DaddyEvil I do not have a problem with those, but cookies, and candy are my downfall.

@GardenGerty I used to keep a large bowl full of Little Debbie snack cakes on our kitchen table but Pretty would eat everything in the bowl in one evening. And that's after she ate a good meal. I don't understand her.

Sounds like a good day except for the restaurant. I have been to the Eisenhower farm house in Gettysburg.I love history. Hopefully after Trump gets kicked out we will have a statesman in the office again. Of course, we may have to put up with Vance for awhile

Bob is doing so well since his hyperbaric treatments last year. Now with the cataract removal he is even more rejuvenated. Hard to believe we have been married 27 years.

Sounds like a day full of nostalgia, history, and a little bit of sweet indulgence! Eisenhower’s legacy is definitely one to admire. Too bad about the restaurant, but at least you scored some chocolate treasures at Russell Stover! And wow—27 years of marriage is amazing. Congrats!

We find we eat out less and less. Restaurants just are not like they used to be. People who had not been to this restaurant under the previous owners probably would have had a good impression.

@sw8sincere My taste may be changing, or the quality definitely is.

@GardenGerty I hear you! It feels like restaurant quality has changed a lot lately. It's nice to find a place that still delivers, even if it's under new management. Home cooking is often the best option these days.
