A woman from Canada, Jasmine Mooney, was taken into detention at the US-Mexican border because her visa had been flagged. She spent 12 days in detention with no access to family, legal representation, or anything. She was given a plastic spoon and a styrofoam cup. She was kept in a freezing cell and slept on a slab with a silver blanket. Others there spoke no English and some had been there longer than she had been. There was no explanation.
She later found out that two security companies were paid for each person placed in detention, and they were paid for holding her there.

It’s not really a good time to travel from country to country right now. People are being detained everywhere, for reasons that make no sense. It’s kind of scary when you think about it.

She had a work visa. It was not expired. It’s been on many news sites and fact checked.

I don't know how true that is, or how much of it is over dramatized for affect and personal bias, but yes I do believe that can happen and do. A person's visa can be flagged for any number of reasons. We have so many illigals here, because the process to obtain a visa to trravel here is expencive and very, very difficult.

Okay. I know that they are flagged all of the time but, not people being detained with no access to legal representation or family. That is awful. Her treatment was deplorable.

@celticeagle Call me a cinic or whatever, but I tend to take news stories with a grain of salt. Just like any other media, it has to sell. And, if you can make readers in this case feel for the victium, then you'll amp up the drama factor. But, if you've ever looked into applying for a Visa here, you'd see how costly and difficult it is. And, it's been this way long before Trump ever considered politics much less took office the first time.

I think so too. Countries are warning their citizens not to visit America. This will hurt the economy of many if not all states.

That’s absolutely insane and completely unjust. No one should be treated like that, especially without any explanation. It’s terrifying how the system profits from detaining people like this.

Thank you. I hope so too. I have been feeling like I want to leave but I can't. Where would be better anyway? Not nowadays. I just hate to think what might be next. And so afraid of losing SS.
