Oops, I started in the wrong year. Oh, well, it’s not like you’ll know either of the songs.
I promise, there are hits (one coming tomorrow!). This is actually a classic song that’s been covered a lot (this is one of the two versions I had in the mid-80s). Here’s the next song you can shake your head at and look at me suspiciously
over.
#7: There She Goes Again - Beat Farmers
Hey, didn’t I just mention these guys yesterday? And on top of that, Sid Griffin, star of yesterday’s band, The Long Ryders, sang backup on a couple of songs on this album!
There is simply no defining the Beat Farmers. Their records were good but nothing in comparison to their live shows. That’s where Country Dick Montana (né Dan McLain) took over. All of his rowdy behavior underscored the fact that he was a darn good drummer. (He died onstage in 1995 of a heart attack, probably exactly the way he wanted to go out.)
This song originated with the Velvet Underground, on their classic The Velvet Underground and Nico album. You’re taking your musical life into your hands when you cover a song like this, but the Beat Farmers rocked it up just enough without taking the power of the original out. (Oh, the other version of this song I had in the 80s was R.E.M.’s, which is much closer to the original version in deliverance. It’s actually my least favorite of the three Velvet Underground songs that they covered, believe it or not…which should tell you how good the other two are.)
A classic from the 60s was reborn in the 80s!

I thought it was the hit remake of the sixpence none the richer in the 90s but checking the video on youtube it was different.

The Sixpence song was just “There She Goes.” All these song with similar or identical titles drive you crazy don’t they!
