Uh-oh. I just noticed that five of the last seven songs from 1955 are country songs. That’s a lot of “Linda? NO!!!!” to say. It was a great year for country music (great year for all music). Let’s go back 70 years to another song from then. #7: Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young - Faron Young Every time I mention Faron Young I mention what a piece of work he was, and how a friend of mine who sat at the table with me at the country music conference every year said he stopped reading the biography of Young…NOT because it was poorly written (the author won an award for best book for her Marty Robbins biography), but because Young was such a jerk that he didn’t merit the time it took to read the book. In short, a lot of the naughty boys of today would have to really step up their game to match him. But the music was fabulous. This is one of his big hits from the 50s, one that was later covered by the likes of Nick Lowe (yes, the guy who wrote “What’s So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding”), Buck Owens, and even Eddie Cochran. Too bad the person couldn’t match the music’s quality. This song could easily have been his philosophy of life.
