Dinner today, my way

For dinner (lunch) today I'm fixing fried rice with pieces of pork, carrots, broccoli, rice of course, water chestnuts if I have them in the pantry, and soy sauce. I'll also fry some chicken croquettes. That's probably about all, I really don't feel up to frying cornbread today. Dinner yesterday was a disaster! I fried some venison steaks, but I guess they didn't get done enough? Anyway, they were horrible. I had to throw them away and all that good gravy, too. There was no way to cook them some more once I put them in the gravy. But we're looking forward to going to a local farmer's market in the morning. Our church has a concession table once a month to raise money for different needy families in our area. We've got some mighty good cooks in our church! They'll have pimento cheese, chicken salad, brunswick stew, all kinds of sweets, and sausage balls (I really hope they have sausage dogs for breakfast!) too. Can't wait!

Uhm... you could have put the venison in a baking dish and considered the gravy as "flavoring" and that should have worked. I've done that once with chicken that wasn't cooked all the way through and it worked just fine. Have fun at the farmer's market! I wish we had one here. (The local farmer's market just sells junk people are hoping someone will buy. I checked out a quilt in the farmer's market a couple of years ago. It had unfinished seams and the stuffing was already coming out of it. I don't care what charity they claim it's for, I'm not buying crap.)

I'll remember to try that cooking in the oven. It was a shame to waste it. I bought a handmade quilt at a yard sale one time. It was absolutely beautiful. It had a tag of $20 which was so cheap that I exclaimed, "Twenty dollars?!!" and the young guy said, "Okay, you can have it for $10." He had no clue. I kept it for a while, but later sold it on Ebay for $200.

@1creekgirl Very nice profit! I hate to waste any food. If there's a way I can save a mistake and make it edible, I'll do it.

@DaddyEvil I'm getting more and more frugal as I age, especially with these prices. We're so blessed to have venison and fish in the freezer.

Right up my alley. Fried rice is a staple in our house. You reminded me of water chestnuts, which I love. Haven't used them in ages. I need to add that to my shopping list.

Our friend came for a visit and brought lasagne and a beef and guinness pie from a farmers' market. We had some of the lasagne last night and are about to have the last of it for our lunch.

@1creekgirl I'm guessing it's just a meat pie with some Guinness added. It has a pastry base and top.

Your fried rice with pork and veggies sounds delicious! The addition of water chestnuts would give it a nice crunch. Sorry to hear about the venison steak mishap! Sometimes things just don’t turn out as expected, but at least you’ve got something tasty planned for today. The farmers' market sounds amazing, especially with all those homemade treats. Brunswick stew and sausage balls? That’s comfort food heaven. I hope they have the sausage dogs you’re hoping for Are you planning to pick up anything special at the market, or just enjoying the good food and atmosphere?

We did enjoy the sausage dogs and I bought peanutbutter fudge, my husband bought a chocolate eclair cake. Walked around some and enjoyed visiting with our church peeps. We're cooking a catfish stew for dinner today and will have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

@1creekgirl That sounds like a great time—good food, good company, and a little treat to take home! Peanut butter fudge and chocolate cake both sound amazing.
