Chipotle, anyone?

Have you ever eaten at the Mexican fast food place Chipotle? Did you like it? We decided to try it. Wish we hadn't. Well, actually we didn't. We went in thinking it was kind of like a cafeteria of Mexican food. I thought there would be a line of sides, etc for you to build your meal from your choices. This one had about four or five trays of different stuff. It all looked so nasty and messy. I wouldn't have eaten there if it had been free. Maybe they're not all like that? We won't find out, though.

I enjoy it from time to time. There is one right around the corner from work so I stop there every couple of months for lunch if I don't bring something. They do have different meats and toppings for burritos, bowls, salads, quesadillas, etc. You just have to tell the employees what to add as you go down the line. My typical order is a beef barbacoa bowl with brown rice, black beans, pico de gallo, corn salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. I hate that they charge $2.50 more for the guac. But still a like $16 or $18 bowl gives me at least 3 meals so I can't complain.

Maybe this one was just unusually messy and the whole place didn't look clean.

@1creekgirl That might have just been a crappy location. The one here is good and clean if a bit pricey. . . but like I said I can get 3 meals out of a burrito bowl so it is worth it for me when I'm in the mood.

@1creekgirl My husband never wanted to go. He never was one to try new food. His 2nd cousin said she will take me to a Mexican restaurant some time.

Chipotle has popped up everywhere here. Admittedly, we do like it. I guess I'd describe it more like "Subway" where you can choose your own ingredients that go in it. There have been issues in the past with food related illnesses . . . we didn't go then - but we do now.

@1creekgirl If you thought it was gross, it probably was. I will say not all Chipotles are alike. We have been to different ones, some are better than others. There is one by our local college . . . we can't put our finger on it, but there's something not welcoming or good about that one.

I thought that was the way it would be, kind of like subway, but this one was gross.

@much2say I guess it all depends on the staff and how clean they keep things.

No, thank you... Everything I've seen from them was too spicy for my system.

There are no Chipotle restaurants in my area. I have heard of them when I do surveys though.

I have never been a huge fan of Chipotle or its competitor, Qdoba. Just not my thing. I DO like Taco Bell on occassion and certainly like Mexican food. But Chipotle and Qdoba just don't do it for me. Most of the ones I have been to are clean, it's just not my fare when it comes to their food.

@1creekgirl If you go into a Qdoba, conceptually it's almost exactly the same as Chipotle, and the menu offerings are nearly identical as well.

There are none near me, or we would likely have tried it once. I know a couple of years back they were having a lot of food borne illness events.

Their business took a huge hit several years ago when there was, I believe, an E. coli breakout in a bunch of their restaurants. They got destroyed in the media. I’ve been once, since then, but to me, it was high priced for perfectly fine food. Not bad, just something satisfactory. I haven’t been back, but I know a few people who absolutely love their food.

I remember that ecoli thing at this restaurant years ago. If I still worked at the health department, I'd give my buddies in the sanitation dept a heads up.

I’m not overly fond of them. I think their chicken is horribly overcooked. However, I will use them in a pinch…did on my last vacation a couple of times.

No, ever since they had that e coli outbreak a few years ago that killed several people, I've never wanted to try them.
