Greenland just isn't into us

What will it take to get that into Trump's thick head? JD Vance, his wife Usha, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and some other administration officials visited Greenland yesterday. It was originally supposed to be a "cultural" trip but then Vance decided to join his wife. The businesses that had originally agreed to have Usha visit rescinded their invitations since it was clearly going to be a political visit. The VP's team scrambled to try to find ANYONE in Greenland willing to host them and literally no one wanted to do it.
Sooooo they wound up visiting a US Space Force base in northern Greenland well away from where they had originally planned to go.
Vance took the opportunity to speak about how Denmark has not taken proper care of Greenland and that it was vital that they join the US for our mutual national security. It has been well documented that the residents of Greenland do not want to become part of America so of course a journalist asked Vance if he could rule out potentially using the US military to seize the territory. He could not but said that he thought Greenlanders would choose to join us. At pretty much the same time here at home Trump was saying that they would understand the need for them to do it and if they don't then "we will have to explain it to them." Um HELLO? What part of "we don't want to be American" do Trump and Vance not understand?
And *paging Elmo and DOGE* the entourage wound up staying in Greenland for just 3 hours. THREE HOURS. How much money was spent on planning, advance teams, Secret Service, and the flights for a pointless 3 hour visit? It is absolute insanity. But sure Elmo cut Grandma's Social Security and cancer research funding to pay for that performative nonsense.
We are just 3 months into the second Trump term and we are making enemies out of our allies left, right, and center. The US looks like a clown show. Even some Trump voters are now publicly admitting that they regret voting for him. Just the fact that Trump pulled Elise Stefanik's UN Ambassador nomination shows that even his own team realizes that they are in trouble. This administration is crashing and burning faster than a Tesla.

I feel a deep sense of sadness and disappointment over Trump's foreign policy, particularly his approach of trying to strong-arm neighboring countries into submission. It’s disheartening to see the U.S. rely on intimidation rather than diplomacy, acting more like a bully than a global leader. This isn't the America I once knew—the one that championed alliances and cooperation rather than coercion.
For a long time, the United States had settled into its territorial boundaries, with Alaska and Hawaii being the last to officially join. There was no longer a need for expansionism, yet the country's actions in recent years seem to reflect a different kind of dominance—not through territorial conquest but through economic and political pressure. It’s as if the U.S. has shifted from a nation that once sought mutual respect to one that demands submission.
This change in direction is troubling, not just for its neighbors but for the world at large. A nation that once prided itself on democracy and partnership now often seems more interested in imposing its will. It makes me wonder what the long-term consequences will be—both for America’s global standing and for the values it claims to uphold.

If JD had set foot on Greenland soil that wasn’t an American-leased army base he probably would have been arrested for sedition.
I read last night that a lot of countries, including (surprise surprise) Canada and Greenland, now have America listed on “travel advisory” lists. Canadians (surprise surprise) are canceling planned vacations to America, as are a number of Europeans. They’re talking about a $13 billion hit to American tourism. But hey, maga!

It is sad, and personally, I think that so much of it just boils down to the unprofessional manner that DT and his administration treat others. They do not act professionally, especially DT, I mean can he even travel with his criminal record, and everything that comes from him is on social media-not a professional platform nor way to discuss anything politically.
The American people, all great, I do not have anything but love and respect for them on the most part, but he needs to learn the fine act of professional politics.
When I look around, I am one of the few Canadians left on this site, that should say alot about how I feel about my neighbours.

Never in my time of paying attention to politics have I ever heard a president talk about taking over Greenland. In any case it isn't going to happen. They might want their independence from Denmark but they have made it abundantly clear they don't want to be part of the US.

@NJChicaa Then you haven't paid enough attention. Not only presidents, but many generals and other top military officials have ALL spoken on the importance of Greenland to the United States. Get with it.
Whether or not Greenland WANTS to be a part of the United States doesn't mean we can't make an offer or ask the question and let them consider it.

You're right; and Greenland doesn't want any dignitaries or anyone for that matter, visiting from the US.
