Yes, it’s time for another song that’s 70 years old now. And it’s another song that was on the 100 favorites list. AND it’s another classic country music song. While y’all make a beeline for the 1985 song I’ll finish off this discussion about today’s 1955 song.
#3: A Satisfied Mind - Porter Wagoner
When I hear these billionaires mocking the 99% of people who aren’t monetarily loaded, I think of a line in this song:
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to the man with a satisfied mind
Some of the best philosophy put to music can be found in this song. Oh, and those harmonies are the cherry on top.
This was Porter Wagoner’s second single, and his first number one song. The song’s title was also the title of Wagoner’s biography (which Wagoner claimed needed to be handled “with asbestos gloves” because of the tawdry details). It’s a classic for Wagoner, for the 50s, and for all of country music.
A Satisfied Mind
Written by Joe "Red" Hayes and Jack Rhodes
Recorded by Porter Wagoner
Released as a single, 1955
If I had his money I could do things my way:

@FourWalls lol I stopped drinking years ago. Hubby and I used to have a drink and some bubbly on New Year's Eve only. Now I won't drink at all. Sigh.
