Indian democracy - a tongue in cheek irritant behavior

So Ramzan is on. We have a famous Chief Minister who orders No celebrations (Iftar) on terrace; No celebrations on roads. First one is seriously objectionable in an overpopulated country where open spaces are hard to come by. The second one is needed. But it is just a provocation.... because Hindus burn crackers on roads, traffic gets disturbed. Hindus have Ganapati processions, which incidentally are not holy rituals, but something a politician started, traffic gets disturbed. Hindus have Janmashtami celebrations, which again block the roads. And then, every famous temple takes the miniatures of their deities on road every evening, this is a tradition to let the untouchables see the gods, and seek their blessings, without entering the temple, and of course, others like lepers and old / disabled / sick people who cannot climb the temple stairs, to get a glimpse of their favorite god...sorta god has come close to their homes, a hope inspiring act. But it does block the roads. And festival merchandise being sold by seasonal sellers...and other hawkers...all encroach the roads. Even the extra cars block the roads. Only Muslims celebrating their festival becomes objectionable? You bet they realize this. You bet this is irritating them. It would irritate me, if I was singled out. You bet there will be a last straw....and if they react badly, they will be blamed. Time Indian politicos started to behave humanely. If my religion requires suppression of another religion or thought, then it means my religion has no merits to stand on its own. And I am a firm believer. Hinduism actually bans such ridiculing and discriminatory behavior. All Hindus may recall the curse of Goddess Parvati on Moon when he laughed at the misery of Lord Ganesha. It means nobody who is at a disadvantage be ridiculed as it would not please gods. That is the Hinduism I follow. Wonder which Hinduism these leaders are following.

That is true in many places. Christians here do the same type of things. They have the only true religion according to them.

As I said, if I have to ensure survival of my religion by suppressing another, it simply means that my religion is not good enough to survive on its own. In order to be a good religion, it should have some very good aspects, and teachings, and thoughts, that others cannot deny as good. I believe my religion has all that. It is the disbelievers who resort to stupid things.

@vandana7 I feel all religions have that. But you always have some that twist things for their own ideas.

@wolfgirl569 I agree all religions are good per se. People have twisted things to keep their importance, which has sorta dirtied them.

I want to agree to agree with you, but given what's happening in Bangladesh, I think he is doing the right things.

1. How far back in history would you like to go? And do you have all the facts and figures of history? Even the same language changes across 100 years, so are the contents correctly interpreted? Is the content comprehensive? Have all records survived? Which records have been destroyed? And which have not been deciphered? Is it possible to relive history or wipe out some part of history? All these questions come to mind. So temples....in ancient times, we had cholera, plague, and even malaria, killing people. Ignorance made people leave a place fearing such diseases. The surviving temples did not get enough revenue for upkeep as the number of devotees dwindled. Muslims were not the only people who destroyed or desecrated temples. It was a NORM OF THAT ERA. You must have seen Troy movie...Brad Pitt. He destroyed temples. Please remember King Harshavardhan was a Hindu, and yet Pulakeshin II attacked him, and won over him, notwithstanding Harshavardhan having defeated invader Huns. Temples were targets for destruction because...........they had wealth to be plundered. Kings used to make huge offerings, and so did the rich folks....so lot of wealth no banks...in those days... The need to plunder the temples...was to take away the wealth so that the king could not regroup and attack again. Simple logic. Kings and other personnel would take refuge, in temples, so they too would be killed. As I said it was a Norm... There used to be earthquakes...you don't have a record of it...so if an earthquake destroyed a temple, and the workers used its stones to make Kutub minar, is it objectionable? Think about it, why on earth would they pray to our deities...or use our decoration in their mosques...it will promote our art...right? Did you know that Jhansi Ki Rani had a controversial part to her character ..the Jokhan Bagh garden incident. Did you know Sambhaji was a hot blooded lad, who is said to have raped a brahmin woman....to cover it up, they say his step mother spread rumors ......we can never be sure, can we? So..I say...let history be...where it belongs. Concentrate on more important things....do not divert people's minds wrongly. What is the point of attaining TEMPORARY PEACE, TEMPORARY PROSPERITY. What goes up, comes down. Someday, BJP will lose, then what? Why on earth should we take revenge on our Muslims because of what is happening in Bangladesh? That is like me punishing you for a crime your brother committed...is that ok? Effectively we set ourselves up for a nation in turmoil. We don't want safe future for our next generations? The statue culture Modi started...with Patel statue to win Patel votes.......led to series of statues in the country...Kamalnath came up with 100 or 1000 statues of Gandhi for schools, we in Hyderabad got statues of Ambedkar, Indira Gandhi, P V Narsimha Rao, and some other person whom I don't even know. Even the slain armed forces personnel got expensive statues made. If you spend taxes on statues for politicos, where will be the money for welfare....and other progressive things? If you build statue for senior armed force person, does it mean sacrifice of a lower cadre person was less? Didn't he deserve as much....what sorta precedents we set. I could go on......... But two issues I will touch 1. What was the population when we got independence, of India, Pakistan and present day Bangladesh. Look up in the net, you will get info. What is Only India's population now. Ratio of growth in population. Mind you, many left the country for the US, Australia, UK etc. How many companies existed before independence? How many in 2014. What was the literacy ratio at the time of independence? What is it now ignoring those who have left the country? We got ISRO, BARC ..We got banks and mining companies...we got administration, though it is corrupt...we got a judicial system. We got dams....we got airports...we got universities...the journey was not easy with partition wounds. BJP came in when the investment started paying dividend. It bungled with demonetization ..judge's house is a proof that cash still rules. It also bungled with statues. How reliable is income from tourism versus income from hospitals? Do I have to tell you that? Would you as a banker give loan to a tourist guide or to a receptionist in a hospital. Because it was Modi's pet project ...rest of the team relented...prompting Congress and others to make a farce of it by increasing the number of statues elsewhere. Same thing Yogi did...he tried to tell the world what is available in India...how stupid he is...in a country where law and order is a mess, where people pee on the roads using excuse like diabetes, where cows roam freely on streets, and dogs poop on streets, only a tourist with low budget will come. If instead, the same artist's work is shown in the US and UK, like in India week, the result will be good...he wasted all that money for temporary objective...how can I approve that? When a home loan is cleared, the borrower is suddenly left with surplus...which is how Modi got funds for roads...even if it was congress government, we would have gotten those roads...that is the point. Congress' investment in education started paying dividends, and Modi enjoyed the fruits. I don't say Congress was right...no...they made blunders too. But making Modi and Yogi appear to be right....words fail me. We also fought wars, and one them. Remember? That is where the sources went. Some of the progress Modi et al., flaunt is because technologies have improved considerably. These were not available to congress to contain corruption.

Aparna, Modi's pet project to reduce physical gold holding in the country is going to cost us more than 7000 crores ...Sovereign Gold Bonds. He offered 4 kg gold bonds annually to people...we could buy them at defined rates, and redeem them after 8 years with zero percent tax on capital gains. Gold doubled in five years. That is more than 15 percent interest ..all tax free. And as if that was not enough, he offered these bonds with 2.5 percent interest...so investors in such bonds are gonna get almost 18 percent per annum, tax free, and 2.5 percent per annum, taxable income. That is Modi for you... When we had funds, it was squandered on political, religious and other constructions, for politicos, instead of hospitals, schools, colleges, industries, etc. Search for the number of statues since the Modi government...not BJP...all governments...including Telangana government...search for the expenses on parliamentary buildings, etc...the amounts are mind boggling. So now when Trump says reduce tariffs ....we have no choice...catch 22 situation.... India will end up importing American good, and this will put a cap on its own industries. After all, Indians are damn smitten by everything from America... Instead of buying Royal Enfield, they will be buying Harley Davidson. So much for patriotism if you have to use tariffs to drive people to our indigenous stuff. The time and resources for making the products from our country cheaper is gone...it was spent on building statues...and other religious stuff... Now inflation will zoom.... Did you realize that Nirmala Sitharaman gave concessions on taxes for vintage cars? She did!!!... And who buys Vintage Cars? Ambani's and others... Was it needed? You tell me. Cleverly couched among other benefits in the budget. That concession is repayment towards the contribution by Ambanis for election money. Yeah ..those are realities...helplessness...I am not Ok with building race track for Karthikeyan either....why should we be in a sport that costs us in fuel...and pollutes our country more? 4 kg gold purchase in SGB....why? And who can? Not you and I. Ambanis Yes. So they get to invest and get hefty interest.... Merely mouthing something does not make it the truth. Verify the claims Hitler said something to the effect that if you repeat a lie 100 times, people will start believing it o be the truth. Modi et all., are doing exactly that. Bridges collapse, trains meet with accidents, no upkeep, no or little action. People are lynched, no reaction. But he has time to console cricketers. Rahul Gandhi is no better...we need leaders who have worked, who understand where the corruption begins... Not politicos who are born with silver spoon in their mouth.

You have to wonder about governments who single out certain elements to discriminate against. No wonder the victims start to protest.
