NJ Senator Cory Booker has been speaking on and holding the House floor for now over 25 hours. He announced last night that he would stand and speak out against the Trump administration's disastrous actions for as long as he was "physically able to do so". It wasn't technically a filibuster because he wasn't trying to block a vote on anything but it was the same general thing because he was just talking on and on.
The record for longest filibuster was by Strom Thurmond in 1957 against the Civil Rights Act. He went for 24 hours and 18 minutes. Booker has now been going for 24 hours and 34 minutes. He has now held the Senate floor longer than any other Senator. . . and he is still going! I don't know how he is going it but WOW. That is incredible!
I'm so proud of the senator from my state for doing "good trouble" and spending more than a day of his life talking about all of the harm that Trump's policies are and will do for Americans. I liked him very much as a presidential candidate back in 2020 and I can't help but think that his actions today will only boost his chances for the future.
