Oops, country music time. Sorry, Linda. But sixty years ago, that was all I listened to. That probably explains why these music countdowns are so weird. Back to 1965 for a name that everyone knows, even if they don’t know the song. Blue Kentucky Girl - Loretta Lynn I’m gonna shock the daylights out of you. Loretta, a Kentucky girl, did not write this. Johnny Mullins did. He also wrote one of her earliest recordings, “Success,” as well as Porter Wagoner’s first hit, “Company’s Comin’.” He got to live quite well on the success of those three songs. In 1965 Loretta was just hitting her stride. Give her five more years and she’d be the face of country music for people who didn’t even like country music. Even now, that’s true of her legacy. Blue Kentucky Girl Written by Johnny Mullins Recorded by Loretta Lynn From Blue Kentucky Girl, 1965 I need no diamond rings:

I know, she was just the best. I could do nothing but weep for joy when I saw her and she sang “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

@FourWalls I would have felt like it was almost surreal. I just think so highly of her.

@AmbiePam — that is how I felt. Same thing with Gordon Lightfoot. It’s the notion that I’m breathing the same air as they are for a couple of hours.
