Did you make some money in the stock market today?

I bought a couple of thousand dollars worth of 6-month fixed income funds today. I am being cautious with my "retirement" money, as I don't have that long of a time window to deal with. I read yesterday that Donald Trump's tariffs would somehow "go into effect," or something like that, today. I am less confident that this strategy will be helpful to the US (and world) economy, and the stock market, than some of my Republican friends are. I will check today's stock market when I get home. I will eat a bit of crow if the DJIA went way up today, but as I mentioned, I just want to protect what I have. I want to be able to eat Tom Kha Gai when ever I want it for the rest of my days. I don't really care about getting rich. Do you have a "retirement portfolio"? Did you "make some scratch" today?

I have a 403(b) account (public worker version of 401k) and have been contributing to it for over 20 years. I refuse to look at what it is worth tonight. I don't do stocks or investments other than that which is controlled by a financial advisor. I did think of @porwest and his advice to always buy when the market is low today as the crash happened. I bet he is waiting for it to drop even more before he buys because it is inevitable that it will.

Buy, buy, buy. It sucks to see the markets drop, I'm not going to lie. But at the same time it presents ENORMOUS opportunity that can't be passed up. Now would be an excellent time to increase your contribution rate and enjoy massive gains on the back end of this. Over time and throughout history, the stock market has NEVER been down, as I say endlessly. Even when it has massive drops it always goes back up and then higher than where it left off before the next drop. It does this every...single...time.

@TheHorse It often is associated with insurance. Some folks get one so that they have interest money coming in every month. We had a chunk of money left from selling our last property. We put half of the money into a 3 year annuity and half into a 5 year annuity. Right now we have about 11 thousand extra in interest built up. It's a fixed rate interest deal.

I did not "make" money in the stock market TODAY, but I made moves that WILL make me money in the future, which is what the stock market is about. Forward looking opportunities. Not short term. In any event, I think many are missing what these tariffs are really about or what they will do. I should post about that, and might do that today.

One of the ways to keep my mind active in retirement is to dabble in the stock market. But I have set limits not to find myself in misery. I have no time frame left to recover losses.

Now that I'm retired, I don't risk retirement funds. They took a big enough hit when my husband was in long term care.
