Had the first roofer over yesterday. I've heard people say $30,000 for a new roof; and I thought they were exaggerating...not so. My quote was for $26,500. As I was sitting in the foyer talking to him, I noticed a leak next to the front door; so the job really needs to be done ASAP. I have another roofer coming over on Wednesday...he's done a couple other jobs for us. It was a rough night. At 3 am I'm talking to my husband again and crying my eyes out. I also prayed to God that He please forgive my husband for his transgressions otherwise I will never see my husband again. Being a widow sucks. Breakfast - PB&J sandwich Lunch - Meals on Wheels - Cheese stuffed shells, mixed veggies, Lima beans Dessert/Snack - Blueberry muffin Dinner - Buffalo chicken/Cheddar sandwich and Cheetos What did you eat yesterday? Do you have any plans for this weekend? Photo Credit: Pixabay

I ate rolled oats with almond milk and a tablespoon of sugar for breakfast, Mexican Lasagna for early lunch and a sausage, egg and cheese croissant for supper. I hope you're doing okay...

It does sound as though a new roof is in order. Perhaps the next quote will be a bit lower. I guess there is a lot of work involved.

@LindaOHio They keep saying that prices will rise what with the turmoil the world is in.

I can't believe the cost to replace roofs these days. Astronomical. And I remember when I had to replace my roof back in 2004 after three successive hurricanes hit our area. It was $5000, and I was upset at how much it was then! lol. It was covered by homeowners insurance, but we decided to pay cash instead of file a claim so that our insurance rates wouldn't go up. You are still grieving the loss of your husband, which is natural. Don't stop, and keep praying incessantly for his soul; it does make a difference.

@LindaOHio I hope he realized his sins and repented. Are or were the two of you religious at all?

We have a large roof which accounts for some of the cost. Yes, I pray for his soul because of what he did. I don't know that he ever repented.

@moffittjc I am. I think later in his life he believed more. Prior to that he didn't believe at all.

Pouring on the hugs. I do not know the size of your roof or how steep it is. You have me worried cause our price for a new roof is about ten thousand plus another six for the solar guys to take the solar panels on and off- they have to mess with electrical stuff, too. It is incredibly hard to know whether the roofer will do a decent job.

@sallypup I imagine that's about the size of ours too since we have 2,300 (approx.) square feet in the house.

I am sorry you are having a rough time. I know it is a very hard time for you. Go ahead and yell at him, it's a healthy way to get out your frustration and anger..you are way, way stronger than you know. Didn't I read somewhere recently that you said you didn't have a new roof for like 25 years? That's a LONG time for one roof. They may have to replace/repair some of the plywood under the shingles, etc. Getting a new roof is never cheap, but now it's even more than ever. But you have to have a roof, for sure, especially if you are finding leaks. An idea--maybe. Can you do the roof before the driveway? When they do the roof you will have worker's trucks, a big dumpster is always involved to put all the shingle trash in that they strip off, there will be old nails involved, etc. All of that activity will take it's toll on any driveway, but if you wait until the roof is all done, it might work out better.

That's a good idea. The roof needs to be done ASAP anyway.

@LindaOHio Just would hate to see a nice driveway destroyed. Everything is so expensive anyway. Hopefully, the roofer can get your roof done ASAP!

I like your image. Yes, I know home repairs are very expensive, and not getting them done costs even more. Glad you are getting more estimates.

Wowza, so glad I got my roof done three years ago, it was half that price! I had chicken veggie soup for both meals. Grilled cheese for lunch, O’Brien potatoes for dinner, apples, fiber, yogurt. All at home, because it’s just too darn risky to go out with all this flooding.
