Well, well. We have two songs today that are gigantic hits. So, unless you’re my buddy Daddy Evil, I don’t want to hear this “never heard it” stuff. (Love Daddy Evil, I can pick on him…don’t you DARE! ) Let’s start in the year of my birth today with this classic. Georgia on My Mind - Ray Charles No, the song itself isn’t 65 years old. It’s 95 years old. This was written in 1930 and recorded then by Hoagy Carmichael. But honestly, after Ray Charles did this song in 1960, who cares who did it!!! There are a lot of songs that have been recorded a million times, but so few of them have what you could call “definitive” versions. This is one of those songs. Ray Charles (who was born in Georgia) made this song his own. Georgia agrees, declaring his version the official state song in 1979. The song itself is timeless. This version is likewise timeless. Georgia on My Mind Written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell Recorded by Ray Charles From The Genius Hits the Road, 1960 Just an old sweet song:

Well, kinda, the show was supposed to have been out of Georgia so the theme fit.

I prefer Willie's version, on his Stardust album.

Ray could sure sing that song, couldn't he? I recall Hoagy in many films. He could pay a mad piano. Had a pretty good voice too.

This is a song that you never get tired of listening. And, of course, by Ray Charles.
