In the White Mountains of Eastern California stands the Methuselah Tree. It is a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine and is between 4,700 and 5,000 years old. It is known to be the oldest tree in the world. It stands in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest which is part of the Inyo National Forest and has been growing there since before the Pyramids of Egypt were built. The area of the forest where the pine stands is deliberately hidden and kept a secret from potential harm and the area is not open to the public. The picture is from a-zanimals.com

I´m glad that the tree is hidden. We, human beings, have the power to destroy everything we touch.

Does some "authority" check on it every now and then to make sure it's still standing?

The forest service and other parks check on it. Here is some more on the old tree:
In order to protect it, authorities haven't revealed where precisely in California's White Mountains it is since its discovery in the 1950s.

Why hadn't I known of this wonder? I am in awe of it. Thanks for sharing this. I wonder how they hide it though?

I guess some trees are hidden from the public due to them being sacred.

I'm glad the location is hidden. I can just see someone cutting it down or putting graffiti on it.
