Saturday's trip out to Joan's birthday party.

Joan who used to be our neighbour was 100 years young on Thursday. So on Saturday she had a birthday party at her new house down the road. Well, actually, it was an "open house" where you could come and go as you please. You could go in the morning between 10:00am - 12:00 noon or in the afternoon between 2:00pm - 4:00pm. But those times were flexible, as you'll see! We said we'd go in the afternoon. We had our lunch as usual on Saturday, then, at about 1:30pm, I told my Mum I was just getting my cup of tea and then I was going to get ready. Mum took her walker and we set off about 1:55pm and got there at about 2:15pm. One of Julie's kids, either Oliver or Alistair, took my Mum's walker and put it in the car port. And then we went in. The dog, Willow, greeted us. She's a lovely dog but she thinks she's a princess and entitled! When we went in, either Oliver or Alistair asked us if we'd like a drink. I asked if they had any green tea, and he came back and said they hadn't got any green tea, would I like some juice instead. So I had a can of something. I don't know what it was but it was strawberry flavoured and it was very nice. He put it in a paper cup for me, and we went and sat on the sofa with Joan, the birthday girl. This little oriental girl who is a friend of the family brought us some food to eat, mainly sandwiches and nibbles. There were quite a few people milling about. There was this old lady sitting in a chair to the left with a plate of food, and Willow went and sat infront of her, looking up expectantly. She came round to everyone begging for food! One old guy gave in to her and gave her something, and I said he was just encouraging her! Every time she came to me I said No! and she looked at me as if to say, What do you mean, no? She went into the kitchen and managed to scavenge a large sausage from the fridge. Julie said she didn't know how she'd managed to get hold of it! And she did that twice! Joan had got so many birthday cards hanging up above the fireplace and above the entrance to the dining room where the wall had been taken out, and some more on the wall near the entrance porch. She'd got about 7 of the same card. And they kept showing people the birthday card from the king! (It's more than just a telegram!) People kept coming and going. A young couple came in with a toddler called Fred, and one of Julie's kids, either Oliver or Alistair, said, I was getting really excited, I thought it was a dog but it's a small child! That cracked me up and I couldn't stop laughing! Later on some more young people came in, friends of Oliver and Alistair, and one of them was Tom Winterton, the son of Richard Winterton the auctioneer who we've seen on television! He was talking with Joan and Julie about their new Auction cafe in town that I've been passed. You can get a coffee and get your valuables valued at the same time, and if you like they can arrange for you to take them to auction. I asked if I could use their loo, and Julie directed me, although she didn't really need to because the layout is exactly like in our house, except a few walls have been taken down. I went up and used their posh toilet. They had double hand rails up the stairs like in our house. When I got to the top there was a bit of a fancy bit at the top you had to hold onto when one of the hand rails ended at the top. Upstairs aswell the layout had been changed too. Instead of having just the one bedroom upstairs, they've made two smaller bedrooms. The toilet was very posh with a marble effect seat, and there were posh lights over the bath that you might usually find in a kitchen! The only problem was the door wouldn't stay shut! It's a good job nobody else was coming up the stairs! I had to hold the door shut! Above the towel rail there were some shelves filled with shells and trinkets and stuff. There was even a starfish! When I went back downstairs I told Mum all about it. But my Mum never went to the toilet while we were there. I guess she probably thought she wouldn't be able to get up off the toilet again afterwards! I went to have a little look at the backyard. They said when they moved in it was overgrowing with ivy, but they've managed to get rid of all that and make it nice. Before we left we were given some of Joan's birthday cake. We didn't end up leaving till about 5:30pm! Infact by the time we got up and got outside and finished chatting to Julie on the drive, it was closer to 6:00pm! So then we walked home. When I got home I went to the toilet again, then I got my tea ready. What did you lot get up to on the weekend? I hope you are all well. Have a nice day.

@celticeagle Yes, it is. My Mum was so jealous of her. My Mum was having trouble getting up off the sofa afterwards and she was wondering how Joan does it!

Joan would have really enjoyed her day with so many visitors. There often isn't a lot of choice of cards for those turning 100. My Mum got a lovely card from royalty when she turned 100 but it was from the Queen. lol

Yes, she was having a great time. People managed to find enough different cards though, even though there were about 8 of the same! They said she should get another birthday card from the king when she turns 105 so they told her she's got to hold on till then! I'm glad your Mum lived to be 100. I'm sure she liked her card from the Queen.

100 years! She must have had a healthy life. I don't want to live that long though. Btw I would love to see such a high-end toilet! No plans for weekend as such. Have a good day!
