So, I try not to ever use my credit cards really because I am too afraid of running a balance. It is a slippery slope. However, ideally I would like to be able to use them for purchases and pay them off every month so I am getting valuable points and rewards from them. Friend has done this for years, and in fact one time he was able to take the 3 of us to Alaska with the airfare totally paid for with credit card air miles. However, I would just like to get more cashback and rewards points from using them.
My crecit score is already quite high, and I do have a couple of good cards. However, I was surprised when it went up again! I put part of a car insurance payment on one. I only pay it every six months, and it is always hefty. I would have paid in full, but I just had had that huge electric bill, and a car repair so really wasn't in the cards. However, I guess the responsible use of my credit card..made it go up again. Well yay..me.
. Do you track your credit score?

I mostly pay with my credit card but pay it all at the end of the month. I dread to go anywhere with cash. And now, here, you can´t pay with checks in many places.

I use a debit card for the vast majority of my purchases. I rarely have cash

No, I never think to check my credit score. We were able to get our credit card paid off and we're being so careful now not to have a balance.

@1creekgirl Yes, those things are always high. Progressive has very good home insurance rates. I saved around a thousand dollars going with them. You should check them out.

@snowy22315 We're blessed to have good health insurance, but it costs a fortune! But it was a blessing for sure while I had cancer treatments and surgeries. House and car insurance is drowning us, though.

I got an email saying my credit score had gone up 46 points last week, and I immediately went to check it because that seemed so odd. It had indeed gone up that much. I don’t ever carry a balance on my credit card so that shouldn’t have done it. It’s the highest it’s ever been right now.
I remember a few people from Europe and Asia laughing here about how Americans were “so into” their credit score. They have no idea how much it affects your finances here… They just don’t get it. I used to not think about it because what, am I going to buy a house someday? But there is a sense of pride in not having a lot and being financially responsible. I know two people my age, and both have a higher income (one is a nurse). They are so much into debt it’s not funny.

It can cause real world repercussions if your credit card balance gets too high or you can't pay it.

Yes. We've always had a high credit score. I put as much on the credit card each month as I can. Then I pay the full balance. I've collected a lot of cash this way. Kudos for having a good score.

We have 4 credit cards & we just got 2 of them
paid off but we keep them low enough to where it
doesn't take us 4-ever to get them paid off.

I do not have a credit care by choice and do use my debit card for online purchases.

I do track my credit score. I get it every month with my credit card statement. It’s hovering close to the top. Like you, I don’t have anything but the credit card, and I pay that off every month.
