Kids, if you wonder why “old people” hate your music, just look at the songs on this list over the first eight days. What a cornucopia of styles we had! Wilson Pickett was born in Detroit. He died in Virginia. He’s buried here in Louisville. What, the halfway point? Seriously, he spent a number of years living here. (His crypt is in the chapel where my aunt’s service was held, that’s how I discovered he was buried here.) And oh, did he deliver some major good soul music. His biggest hits include “Mustang Sally,” “634-5789,” and “Land of 1,000 Dances.” This was also a good-sized hit for “Wicked Wilson.” Dancing is mandatory.
