On Digital banks and other online earning sites

As I’ve entered retirement, one of the things I’ve been focusing on is managing my finances in a way that maximizes savings and earnings. Traditional banks have never been known for offering high interest rates, so I decided to try out digital banks to help me grow my savings with higher interest rates. So far, it’s been an interesting experience, and the digital banking options seem to offer much better terms than the old brick-and-mortar institutions.
However, while I appreciate the higher interest rates, I still have some reservations about the long-term viability of digital banks. Will they survive in the competitive market? Can they weather economic downturns, or will they face challenges as they grow? It’s something I think about as I try to make the most of my retirement finances.
Another thing I’m currently exploring is how to keep earning in a way that aligns with my lifestyle now that I’m retired. I’m not looking to go back to the regular 8-5 grind, but I am open to part-time work or other online opportunities. There are plenty of ways to earn money in today’s digital age, from freelance work to online gigs, and I’m hoping to find something that fits my interests and skills.
Has anyone else here ventured into digital banking or found successful ways to earn income after retiring? I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have!

Never heard of digital banking. Are they regulated?

Yes, they are, just like brick and mortar banks... at least in the US.

@anya12adwi You know PayPal is a digital bank, right? It gives loans, exchanges money, moves money around and can work with cryptocurrency.

Still looking for any side gigs earning. Maybe I get more serious about this one after the trip which is coming very soon here. As for the Digital Banks I am just cautios and added some funds there to see how it will fare then from time to time I might put it back on the traditional banks to be safe.

@rsa101 Honestly, with what trump is doing, I'm not sure now is the time to be experimenting with your money.

@DaddyEvil I see so far it hasn't yet come to my place the effects of what Trump is doing. Seems like they have not yet imposed any tariffs yet or it hasn't yet affected us in some ways.

My deposits are with nationalised banks which are safe although the other banks offer higher rates of interest

I plan to spread my savings not on one bank but to several since our banking system is only insured at a ceratin amount so I make sure that I can claim everything in case there are bank runs happening here and there although they rarely happening nowadays.

@allknowing Yes, that’s exactly what I’m keeping in mind right now. While I don’t see any major issues with our banking industry at the moment, you really never know what could happen. It’s always better to be prepared, just in case things take a sudden turn.

I had no idea that there were so few digital banks in other locations. Some of them are relatively new in my area, and I have only recently met them. I have utilized Gcash at our location, where they provide a wide range of services beyond money transfers and have begun to function similarly to a bank. The sole distinction is that they do not have a physical bank like the conventional ones; instead, you can locate a branch and conduct transactions to take out your money. Here, payments are made electronically and transferred to another Gcash account, making it a very convenient way to pay. Additionally, they offer a physical debit card that can be used in stores just like a credit or debit card.

I can't really help you. I've earned on a few writing sites but it's mostly small amounts and with AI I don't even know if they are still operating. Good luck with your search. There might be short-term 'projects' in your area of expertise if you do some research.

I know it can be really challenging to find a good opportunity online, but I’m currently exploring non-voice virtual assistant jobs. I’m hoping to find something that doesn’t demand too much of my time but still provides a decent earning. Just looking for something flexible that I can manage alongside my other responsibilities.

I am currently attempting to look into that. Some people believe that dropshipping and affiliate marketing are beneficial because they require little work to promote and generate sales. Of course, I am still studying, though, if that works for me.

Conservatively, that would be the most practical way, but those digital banks might be able to save me more money and earn extra interest, so I might use some of them to make. I would just not trust them with everything and be greedy to put everything there.

If you are here in the Philippines, there are a lot of new ones in here that offer much better interest rates vs. the traditional banks, which are very conservative when paying their interest to their clients. You can always start with Gcash which offers a wide varierty of things you can do to invest your wmoney with them, Even Cryptocurrency they can easily buy one for you if your are interested. Besides that there are many others like CIMB Bank, Gotyme and Maya banks.
