The quote from the second roofer, who we have used before, was slightly less; and he will make sure all bathroom exhaust fans are vented to the outside instead of the attic. I have decided to go with him. The other company uses Owens-Corning Shingles; but Certainteed Shingles should be good enough for the time I have left on this Earth. The funeral home at which I had my husband's funeral is having prices increases on May 1. I will have to find some time some way to get my funeral bought and paid for before that date. I rescheduled my dentist appointment because I wasn't feeling well. Breakfast - PB&J sandwich Lunch - Meals on Wheels - BBQ chicken breast, green beans, mac and cheese, red cabbage, peaches Dessert/Snack - Blueberry muffin Dinner - Buffalo chicken/cheddar sandwich and Cheetos What did you eat yesterday? I hope you are feeling better now. I love BBQ chicken. It's just so good. Thinking back, it honestly doesn't seem that long ago that a person could buy a small home for $25K....and now, that's how much a roof is. And the price of cars now...just wow! If your two cars run well, you will surely be able to sell them quickly.

I'm feeling much better, thank you. I remember in 1978 we paid around $50-55,000 for our house.

It's good you've made a decision on the roof. I hope it will get done soon.

Me too. There's rain coming! It will probably be 3 weeks until they can get to it.

@LindaOHio How much do you need for funereal expenses?

@BarBaraPrz $13,000. My husband's insurance policy should cover it, even though the roof, etc., will be coming out of that money. I hope you're not thinking about sending me money. As sweet as the gesture is, I will send it right back to you. Someone else did that one time here. I won't accept any money from my MyLot friends.

I would have also decided to spend less, I am sure the roof will last for many years.

@LindaOHio This is exactly what I am thinking buying our new furniture. No way I go for custom made as in the past.

@LadyDuck I'd like a new couch; but I don't see the necessity for just a couple more years.

I hope the contractor can get your roof done fairly soon. Good luck with it! I'm sorry you weren't feeling well and had to reschedule your dental appointment.

Our apartment complex has had six roofs in 20 years. They like to pay fly by night roof companies who do a cr@ppy job, and then take off. You’d have hoped they’d learn. I had a huge salad, and some banana chips.

Roofer number 2 sounds good. 3 small pancakes for breakfast, a slice of pizza for lunch, chicken, peas and blueberry muffin for din.

Glad you found a cheaper option, and a better one. I had the usual, chicken taco for lunch (all mixed with the rice and stuff on the plate to keep it from landing back on the plate ), yogurt and strawberries for mid-day snack, and chicken & rice & veggie soup and applesauce for dinner.

My mom's home insurance would not renew her policy due to roofing issues . . . we were told even if we redid the roof it might still not get renewed. Ultimately we got a policy out of state (no CA insurance is issuing out new home policies). A new roof would have easily been around $30,000 . . . it is NUTS.

Insurance companies can be so rigid. Yes, around $30,000 seems to be the going rate.
