Any good biologist will tell you that evolution, as a general rule, selects positive, not negative characteristics. It picks out the properties that keep us going, not the ones that knock us off. Any good political scientist, or anyone even halfway paying attention, for that matter, will tell you that political evolution does not follow those simple common-sense rules. Not by a long shot. Every few decades, and sometimes at a faster rate, some severely negative political entity such as Adolf Hitler or DonOld Trump will get elected to an impossibly and dangerously high office, to the detriment of everyone. And these undesirable malignant elements are rarely eliminated by natural processes. Lone gunmen rarely successfully target them. They almost invariably only dispose of people like JFK, RFK, and MLK. Meanwhile, noxious villains like Hitler, Trump, and Reagan enjoy an undeserved immunity from bullets. Someone did try to kill Reagan and came close, but did not win a cigar. Just like the many who tried to kill Hitler. Trump, jealous of that attention, staged two fake assassination attempts on himself that were just Trumpian. Laughable and very weak. I'm going to end this one by paraphrasing the late great Oliver Hardy. "Well, Political Evolution, here's another nice mess you've gotten us into!"

I thought it was another 'fine' mess... be that as it may... "They almost invariably only dispose of people like JFK, RFK, and MLK." Can we add a K to his name?

Trump seems to be unraveling fairly quickly. Let's see how long he lasts.

there has been no 'evolution' in politics. It has become the feeding tree for the most corrupt money hungry nothings in society.
