Bagoong is a popular Filipino condiment.
It is also known as Shrimp Paste. According to the news, this Filipino product is currently banned in the US especially in Filipino or Asian Store.
The FDA cited concerns over the use of “unsafe food additives,” such as sodium benzoate, TBHQ and potassium iodate.
But the ban was lifted, based on the article, bagoong is back.
Since late 2024, bottled bagoong has been conspicuously absent from Asian and Filipino grocery store shelves in the United States.

Is that banned in your country too? Once I read an article where many food items that we regularly use here in our cooking are banned in various countries for various reasons.

It looks like the ban is already lifted. I have never heard any banning news here in the Philippines.

That's why I don't buy this, I prefer to make my own shrimp paste.

Countries have their own ideas about what's good and bad.
