Talking about pets, which do you prefer, cats or dogs?

I like both of them, but I do prefer cats over dogs. Although they both have their good points, there is so much care and maintenance that goes into having a dog that you don't have to worry about with a cat. I firmly think anyone who dislikes cats has never had one..or maybe had one that felt unsafe so it lashed out. Both pets can be like that though. Some think cats aren't affectionate, but they are both social and affectionate as far as I am concerned

I’m a dog person over a cat person, and part of that could very well be that I didn’t have any close relatives with cats, just dogs. And, one lady’s house I went into as a kid smelled so much like a litter box I just assumed all people who had cats lived somewhere that smelled that way. Of course, I realized that wasn’t true a little later.
But over the years, I have developed an affection for cats, even though I fear I may be allergic. If I am, I’d like to have a Sphinx cat. I think I’m allergic because when I visited my neighbor who had a cat my eyes watered and I broke out in a rash. That’s the first time that happened.

Sphinx cats are really neat looking however, unfortunately, they usually don't live as long as mixed breeds. They are prone to cardiac problems

@snowy22315 Can’t do that then. I can’t take animals who don’t live at least ten years on average. My heart is too much of a ninny.

I've had both most of my adult life and honestly it's cats that require the most care, that litter they need is so blasted expensive. As for my pups, the only requirements they needed were collars and leashes
Of course yearly vaccines are always necessary for both.

My cat is exclusively inside so I don't get shots for him, although when I have a chance he does get a rabies shot. He doesn't need heartworm or flea preventative either.

I like how you have to earn the affection of a cat. They can be hard to please.

I'm allergic to furbabies but, before I started having allergic reactions to them, I preferred cats... as long as they lived outside. We had dogs and cats on the farm and I enjoyed them but I don't want to clean kitty litter or take a dog for a walk all the time.
That's the reason I have fish... They wait patiently in their tank for me to wake up, turn their light on and feed them.

I've always had cats until the past few years and now we have a dog. I think I like them both equally but dogs do require more attention, etc than cats do.

Yes, I like them both..but if I had to pick it would be cats hands down. Dogs can be intimidating at times even nice ones.

It depends. Years ago a person I knew told me that I was the first person she had met who had cats who came when called. Apparently she assumed that cats don't know their names?? I lived with a cat who had not been socialized when she was a kitten. Just like a human baby, that cat was a mental case and us humans suffered for living with her. I like dogs because they are dogs and I like cats because they are cats. The other day my hubby turned to me and said, " You know, we live with five highly intelligent animals." I agreed with him but it made me think.

All the cats I have had knew their names. Nico for all his impertient behavior is the only cat I have had that comes when called 98 percent of the time. I think he is always hoping there is something in it for him..and most of the time there is.

Growing up on a farm we never had to worry about litter boxes which puts me off pets in general. And we're away quite a lot too so we've decided we won't be having a cat or a dog. We did love the various cats we had.

I like dogs better since they are friendlier than cats.

I like cats because they are affectionate. I lashed out and feel unsafe with a dog.

Alot of dogs are super sweeties. The dog I used to have got stressed when he was older and felt uncomfortable. He bit a friend of mine, but the guy was unwisely trying to move him from a chair when he was sleeping. Even I wouldn't have done that.

CATS RULE DOGS DROOL! I like small dogs, I don]t like a big, drooling panting dog.

I like cat. Because I think cats are regarded as "the quintessential pet" and are ritually pure and blessed animals.
