Good news, Radio Rangers. I had the best nap ever tonight. I can't provide any details here but if you know, you know.
On the bad side of the Nap News, Wink Martindale left the building yesterday ((For details, see the article linked below)). He gets the "Left the building," farewell because he was one of the first people to interview Elvis on television. Coincidentally enough, he, Elvis, and TV were all very young at the time.
He first met Elvis on Tuesday, July 6, 1954. According to an interview with Wink that you can find on YouTube, he had to go find Elvis at the theater he was hiding out in. Another version of the story is that Gladys and Vernon went out and found him and brought him to the station.
The reason he needed to find Elvis that night was that Dewey Phillips had played "That's All Right," the song Elvis had recorded the night before and was getting a lot of audience reaction to it. Sam Phillips was there. An interview was needed and the only missing element was Elvis.
It really doesn't matter who brought Elvis to the studio that night. Either way, it's a fascinating look at how the radio and music businesses used to work.
On Saturday, June 16, 1956, Wink was the host of the TV show "Teenage Dance Party" on WHBQ-TV in Memphis ((Now FOX13)) and that's where and when he first interviewed Elvis on TV.
To prevent the critics from saying I'm too predictable, let's skip ahead four years from 1954, to Tuesday, October 21, 1958, to see what the Cosmic Universal Anthem Song Of The Month Club Anthem Song for today is.

Wink also covered the rather boring and annoying recitation “Deck of Cards.”

That was a nice song by Elvis. I still love all of his songs.
