Cats cannot be trained

While dogs can be easily trained I have never succeeded in getting any of our cats trained. The only thing Peppie our cat understands is when I say 'fish; and he comes running. Cats do their own thing and perhaps look for one' s lap if they do not find any other place where they can get some warmth. Preiti our pet dog was disciplined and apart form how she herself took to discipline she also paid attention to what we wanted her to do. What is your experience with yoru pets?

I've trained my cats to sit in front of closed doors and walk on a leash. They can be trained, but you have to work at their pace and make it fun for them.

I've seen trained cats in TV..in talent shows, and also in shows that have animal acts in person. I trained a cat once to shake hands. Actually, I saw a FB video where a cat was lined up with her dog brothers and they all rolled over on cue. Cats are food motivated, but also stubborn so they are a bit harder to train

There's no doubt that dogs can be easily trained. Because they have always been closer to humans. I think it's easier to be with them and easier for them to be with us as well. I tried training a female lab and was successful to an extent. And I've seen hundreds of YouTube videos on dog training. I'm sure they are easier to train. But on the other hand, however much you love your cat, no matter how much you do for them, they are hardly loyal. My mum used to tell me these things. And I experienced them over time. Even if you offer them plenty of milk, they will still put their mouth in the milk pot if you don't keep a watch on them. Just my experiences!

@allknowing That's true. Cats are their own bosses. They will only do what pleases them. They aren't bound by certain things. You are right. They will leave without any notice. But they will show up without any reason as well

There is no dearth of love and care when it comes to cats in our household but they will just leave without notice.

Cats are like "no can't can master me, no matter what" They choose a person carefully whom they want. I assume them they purr and soften themselves whenever they want to be around their special person ... but never allow themselves to train and master them

My two cats follow me all morning wanting their canned cat food. They are training me instead of me training them.
