Fixing Things Yourself Versus Hiring Someone to Fix Them

I was surprised by something I read on BING this morning that said 79% of people would rather fix things themselves rather than hire a professional to do it while 21% would hire somebody to effect repairs. That's a lot of DIY people right there. So much of it depends on your skill set, your age, whether or not you work full time, and of course your income and ability to pay someone else.

We've never been DIYers, I'm hiring contractors left and right these days.

My husband and I are very independent, there are things that we will repair ourselves, and there are things that we will hire out. It depends on the task.

If I can fix it, I will. I always have all my life, having no man to help.

Well, I know I am not a DIY person but when I lived with mom in NYC even though we could call the super when needed I did learn to fix and leaky faucet and some other things,

I usually try to repair a problem by myself based on my knowledge and experience working on like changing light bulbs inside of a home but when it comes to working with electrical problems, I call a repair person.

I employ people to fix plumbing and electrical problems. I am old now and need someone even to change a bulb which I could do a few days back.

I figured most of it has to do with money. I’m amazed at how many people call my dad to come fix things in their house. He knows how to do electrical work, he can fix most things on cars, knows how to fix minor plumbing issues, and so on. Of course, he won’t let anyone pay him although they try. I know he’s saved a lot of his own money over the years. Quite frankly, and I’m not supposed to do this, he’s fixed things in my apartment that maintenance never gets to. Thank God he can fix a toilet.

I would definitely do things myself if I could except I am not handy in the least.

I always try to fix it myself and what we need to know is the steps before.

It's often cheeper to do small fixes yourself. Then it is to pay an hourly rate that's three times the cost of parts.

It depends on what needs to be done. If we can do it on our own, we will. Though there are jobs that requires specific skill like those involving electricity, we would really have to call for help of the experts.

We normally fix things ourselves. My husband mostly does the fixing. Every now and then we hire someone.
