Our iridescent feathered friend, the hummingbird, cannot resist many herb bushes' vibrant colors and sweet smells. All of the herbs mentioned enjoy full sun and well-drained soil. I've compiled a list of 12 herbs that these birds seem to enjoy: * Bee and Lemon Balm - These both have a wonderful scent. The bee has a pink flower. * Pineapple Sage - This herb has a bright red tubular flower and a pineapple scent. * Catnip - You might know this herb for the feline antics it causes in our pets. But it also has a lovely purple bloom and a definite scent the hummingbird can't ignore. * Lavender - Who can resist the calming smell of this herb? It also has a lovely flower of the same color. * Rosemary - This culinary favorite has a blue flower and is a must-have for any cook's herb garden. * Basil - Here is another must-have in a good herb garden. Its soft white flowers offer a nectar feast to hummingbirds. * Thyme - Another favorite for the kitchen and the birds, this one has white flowers and an interesting scent. * Mint - This one has many flavors to choose from and lovely lilac flowers. * Oregano - With clusters of purple flowers, this culinary favorite offers a subtle nectar. * Chives - What a splash of color with their purple pom-pom flowers have a sweet burst of nectar. Also great, dried on baked potatoes. * Sage - With silvery leaves and blue flowers, it has a tranquil scent and nectar-rich blooms. * Chamomile - With daisy-like flowers, this herb has a calming effect and has a subtle lure to hummingbirds seeking a sweet nectar treat. The picture is from my collection.

Anything goes for our birds here and that is why I dread to grow any vegetables. The saplings get nipped

And apparently they like fuschias, according to a gardening site I subscribe to.

It's all about the color and maybe the taste of the nectar.

Oh, yes. Especially in the spring when they are flowering.
