Steve Mitchell who is a firefighter who is employed by the Covington Fire Department ran in his firefighters uniform on Sunday April 20 in New Orleans to raise funds for the memory of a fallen police officer who passed away in the line of duty recently. The name of the deceased police officer is St. Tammany Parish Deputy Grant Candies. The race was also a statement to raise funds for the fire department. Steve was able to run the race which was 6.2 miles in a time of less than two hours. Wearing the firefighters unform added 50 pounds to Steve who was one of 18,000 runners participating in the marathon race. Link is wdsu.com/article/coving...

I bet he is glad he wasn't running this race in July or August. What a nice way to honor this person. Adding 50 pounds doesn't sound fun at all.

You are right that running a marathon in April is not as bad as running a race in the summer months.

I hope he was not carrying a fire extinguisher as well, then, and dragging along a long hose behind him too, which would have filled up with his sweat, from sweating a swimming pool of sweat, dolled up in his fireman's uniform like that. What an effort though, an herculean effort. Well done, indeed.
