Nothing in the world will convince me this is the way to deal with homeless people.

We all see homeless people. We even see homeless families, living in cars, vans, even tents...in the US, this is a daily occurance. Yes, it hurts. Yes, it's difficult to help some of them if they have a lot of problems--been in legal trouble, addictions, etc.
BUT...just hold on here. Not all the homeless people you see are crooks, criminals, addicts. Sure, some of them have big problems. Some of the people in your every day life have big problems, too. Many people have an uncanny ability to hide their big problems. Some people don't.
A mayor of a California town announced he wants to ''purge'' the homeless from a homeless settlement there. His plan?
''"What I want to do is give them free fentanyl. That’s what I want to do," Parris responded.
"I want to give them all the fentanyl they want," he reiterated.''
When confronted, he backtracked and said he only wanted to purge (kill with Fentanyl) the criminals OR the ones who refused help.
I guess if you are a mayor now, you can be God, too?
This makes me sick.

This mayor is not in our area, but I do know of him . . . he has gotten major flack in the past. And now this. This is certainly not a solution - it's inhumane and unethical. This is another example of disgusting leadership that needs to go!

And while I hate saying this...I bet he declares himself to be a Christian and a churchgoer. There seems to be a lot of this...people with any amount of power playing God. I do NOT like it.
Disgusting leadership is right!

@MarieCoyle Yep - that is exactly what he claims. Yet his actions and the crazy things he says sure don't show it. So-called leaders like him need to be thrown out.

I figured as much. He doesn't belong in a position of leadership in anything at all in life.

It is terrible to know that this kind of stuff is put out there by public officials and it seems ok with them. And like you said, they are still humans. The same creator made them, that made us.

It's frightening to know there are people like this in leadership. I mean...there has to be limits to how far they can go with their threats!

I don't think we can group people in masses, everyone has different needs. But killing someone because they are homeless, addict or not, isn't right.

And it isn't up to us to judge them, either. Evidently, this guy never figured that out.

Somehow I have the feeling that the mayor that said this doesn't know how to be kind.

How assinine. Trump wants to charge the homeless with a misdemeanor. He also wants to make it mandatory for the homeless to get mental/ medical screenings. Of course, I am relatively sure this will all be paid for by the state. Simply idiotic. I have seen documentaries about some homeless people's stories. This one man would get off the streets, get on medications, but, after a time, he would falter and be right back out on the streets. So many people in positions like mayors are unable to see the depth of these people's issues. And, the big thing is THEY DON'T CARE! What happened to people in these positions who cared about their constituents and worked to better their lives?

Many homeless people are at the end of their rope...they have given up, no life, no hope. They need help, not Fentanyl and criticism. True leaders do not say things like this guy did.

I agree, I don't think it would fly here if I said exactly what I think of this fellow. What a cruel excuse for a human being he is.

@MarieCoyle I seen it starting when Obama ran the first time and it has continued to get worse. I remember having posts on fb saying if you vote for him you want communism. Now those same type of people have voted in a dictator wannabe who encourages that

Sometimes I read the news and wonder, how did we get here, and become a country full of hate and anger? Well...I do have some theories, but they are just that--theories. Hate and anger are very difficult to deal with, let alone to fix.

Okay, that's going way too far. Even if he was joking, that's crossing a line, and I think he should resign from his position.
I have personal views about the homeless, and they're not always the most loving/caring thoughts, but at no point would I want to stoop to the level this mayor did.

Well said. I wish some of our leaders realized that. However, just because someone is an addict or has committed a crime, doesn't mean that we should kill them.

We should try to help, yes. But people like this mayor who made the statement, he must not have a heart at all.
