Oh, wasn’t 1960 a good year. I was born there.
Despite that, there was lots of great music that year.
I’m celebrating having turned 65 earlier this month with songs that are also turning 65 this year! Wonder if these songs got Medicare cards?
Here’s today’s song for your dining and dancing pleasure.
#9: Finger Poppin’ Time - Hank Ballad and the Midnighters
Yeah, buddy!! And before you hit that “never heard of him” comment button (you have one automatically set up for my lists, don’t you?
), I PROMISE you that you’ve heard a song by him: Hank Ballard wrote “The Twist.” Come on, baby, let’s twist a celebration! In fact, Ballard’s recording was a top 30 hit before Chubby Checker became synonymous with the tune.
There’s one thing for certain: Hank Ballard didn’t want anyone sitting still. His other major hit beside this one was another danceable number, “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go.”
Needless to say, his contributions to everyone moving their glutes to the dismay of their parents earned him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
So much for someone you’ve never heard of.
Finger Poppin’ Time
Written by Hank Ballard

From Mr. Rhythm and Blues, 1960
Here comes Johnny and Bobby too:

Best year ever.
I entered the world in 1960 too.
I must admit though I have never heard of the song you feature or the singers.

I enjoy finding new music, even the stuff that happened before I was born.
Happy 65th birthday this year to you as well!!!

Don't remind me lol.
65 used to be the old age pension age. Now it's 67 so I have.a.couple of years before I am a pensioner. Yay for me.

I’m surprised how popular some of these songs were and how rapidly they faded.

Wanna play “Six Degrees of Jimmy Buffett” with this?
1. Covered by Lou Ann Barton, which was…
2. Produced by Glenn Frey, who…
3. Co-wrote “Gypsies in the Palace.”
