Does Mike’s Amazing Mayo live up to its name?

I always buy Hellmann’s mayo. I always buy a 30 oz. jar and I usually never pay more than $4.49 for it. If I’m lucky I can get it for under $4 or even for $2.99. I went to the supermarket yesterday to get it as I was out but it wasn’t on sale. Its price was $6.99. No way was I gonna pay that much for it. I needed mayo though so I looked at other options. The store had Duke’s but I tried that before and wasn’t a fan. Then I saw Mike’s Amazing Real Mayonnaise. It was on sale for $2.99. I’ve never gotten it before so decided to try it as it wasn’t expensive. I wondered if it would actually be amazing just like its name says. After I trying it this morning I have to say that it doesn’t live up to its name. It’s not terrible but it ain’t great either. I don’t like it and I’m sticking with Hellmann’s from now on. I will still use it up though. I hate throwing food out.

To me mayo is mayo. Same goes for my preference which happens to be Miracle Whip. I have used generic versions of it forever and I honestly can't tell the difference between Kraft Miracle Whip and say, Kroger "salad dressing."

I’ve never bought store brand mayo before. Miracle Whip I may have tried but I don’t remember.

@porwest I wonder why they seem to all put soybean oil in regular mayo.

@lovebuglena I would bet if you tried a store brand, you'd hardly be able to tell the difference from brand name. I could be wrong. I like Miracle Whip because it's more zingy and has more flavor.

@lovebuglena NYC was my hometown so that surprised me, I looked online and I saw that there are Walmarts in New Jersey but that is far from you.

@RasmaSandra I think Bayonne NJ is the closest one. Wonder why they don’t open one in NYC.

I guess that is why it was so cheap.

$2.99 was the sale price. Regular was $4 and change.

The oils used are probably not very good. I just get REAL mayo and have for years.

@celticeagle soybean oil can’t be good for us. Why can’t they use grapeseed oil or olive oil or avocado oil instead?

This mayo has the word Real on the label. And so does Hellmann’s but both use soybean oil.

Duke's is my favorite mayonnaise (it's one of those brands that people either love or hate). I haven't tried Mike's yet, but I noticed a few days ago that my local grocery store just started carrying it. If I see it go on sale, I may buy it just to try it.

I have noticed that over the last 30 years that Mayonnaise has become so bland and tasteless that I stopped buying it and I started making my own. Much tastier. Fresh and vibrant and quite satisfying to manage to make it so easily. Eggs, Lemon Juice, Olive oil and salt and give it a vigorous whisk up until the correct consistency. 5 minutes - if I can do it, anyone can

I’ve never made mayo before. Maybe one of these days I’ll give it a try.

@lovebuglena Do not put off until tomorrow that which you can do today. If you do, you might never buy a jar of Mayo ever again. I became frustrated that Mayo became bland so I watched a Youtube video and was thrilled when what I made.was so tasty.

@Ineeddentures I actually love the taste of Hellmann's mayo. Just wish they didn't use soybean oil in it.
