My Lactose Intolerance Has Turned Into a Milk Allergy

Who gets milk allergies when they're 60 years old? For a couple of years now I've gotten some gastrointestinal distress if I ate ice cream, drank a coffee with milk in it, ate cereal with milk, ate some cheese, etc. It was an intolerance with not-so-fun results. But now I'm getting hives and allergic reaction symptoms when I eat chocolate with milk in it. That's never happened before. It's been happening for 3 days now. At first I thought it was nuts in the chocolate (there weren't any) but now I've researched and I'm pretty sure it's the milk. I honestly don't know what I can and can't eat anymore. It's very frustrating.

I have been lactose intolerant - I know what that feels like - but was told I could build up to being tolerant again. I can handle milk/dairy now, but just not a whole lot of it. Could the allergy possibly be chocolate itself?

That seems so odd.

I'm the same as you Lou...I just don't know anymore. I experience gastro intestinal and skin issues. Its horrible. I think it is whatever they are putting in foods and stuff.

You need to contact your PCP and have them help you with what you can safely eat.

Not so fun results!! Gastrointestinal distress!! I'm guessing you have experienced the runs!! Have you ever been unable to reach the sanctuary of a bathroom? It happened to me. I could post about it.

I guess it just happens that as we age our bodies change. I have never had cholesterol issues, but all of a sudden my cholesterol is inching up and is higher than it should be. Doc and I are going to try a slight change of diet before going on a statin. I told him I don't want to start adding medications if I can avoid it.
