"The story shifted to another book!"

My roommate, who loves Mercedes Lackey as much as I do, has checked out her first book, Arrows of the Queen. She starts laughing and said something. Now, she was in the other room, so she came in.
"I was listening and suddenly she talking about Vanyel and his sacrifice." Or close to that.
Maybe I've read it more recently than she has... she would've been going on 14 when the book was published. I really kind of doubt she read it right after it was published, she was in some 'back water' type place. I didn't read it before the early/mid 1990s when my friend, Elaine, introduced me to her books. I have had the pleasure of meeting her 2 or 3 times.
I kind of doubt I read it more recently than she has. However, there are things that make an impression on me in writing, something I do that she does not.
"Right at the beginning?" she nodded. "She, Talia, was reading a book about Vanyel right at the beginning of the book."
She stopped. She looked at me, eyes wide. "Your right! I had forgotten that."
I laughed. "And, don't ya know, she then had to write the story about what she was reading in the beginning of the story." Actually, she writes trilogies. So, after the "Arrows" trilogy, she then had to write the 'Last Herald Mage" trilogy.
Now, I'm sure she tried to find a way to write a trilogy about the Exile, but only got two books, Exile's Honor and Exile's Valor.
So, I solved her mystery...

I really loved the Valdemar novels and then read everything Mercedes Lackey wrote.
I have them all in my library.

I have a lot. I'm afraid some of the more recent ones, the founding ones and maybe one of the last spy ones are in the roommate's room. I have Feuds, the short stories... I'm about half done with it.
I have collected writers over the years. So far, I've lost 3 of the 5 I've been collecting, Anne McCaffrey, Lilian Jackson Braun and Tony Hillermann. That leaves Mercedes Lackey and Janet Evanovich.
It took me a while to warm up to the Elemental Magician books and I haven't read Jolene... The roomie discovered, and read the Hunter books. I have been having to be careful with the money, so I'll probably only buy Valdemar books for the time being until I get sorted out.

@ElicBxn When my daughter and I moved into this smaller house seven years ago, all my paper/ink books got sorted into plastic totes with lids and stored in our garage. I switched to reading ebooks and got all my favorite authors downloaded into the Kindle Cloud so I could read my collections anytime I wanted without digging back through all the totes in the garage.
When you get the money, you should look into Piers Anthony, too.
I enjoy the Janet Evanovich novels, too.
I hope things get sorted for you soon.

@DaddyEvil I know I've read a few Piers Anthony. I enjoyed them, but not enough to go looking for more of them. I read Night Mare just after the time Austin hosted the NASFC (North American Science Fiction Convention) in 1985. The lead up to the convention had been my introduction to the SMOF (Secret Master(s) Of Fandom.) The group that won the convention I called the SMOF wanna bes. At one point the night mare finds herself in a closet with a bunch of fans and they called themselves the Secret Master(s) Of Fans. At that time Anthony would not go to any convention that was run by SMOFs, which pretty much limited him to local cons in Florida. Having met a few of the local guys and once one of the more main guys, I certainly understood why.

I'm talking about a book written by a favorite writer. The roomie has read the first one who knows how long ago, but early in the first book the person who the story is about was reading about a historical figure who she wasn't quite sure was a real person. Which is what confused the roomie, since after she finished the trilogy she then had to go write the stories about the historical person.

I have not read any books by this author. Sounds like having a good fan following. Happy that you solved the mystery

@ElicBxn I am not much into fantasy. I read fiction and non fiction, but not much into fantasy realm. My elder daughter is head to toe in fantasy and when I asked her, she too is a big fan of this author.
