Quickies are fun, but they end quickly. But my boring countdowns go on forever.
Today we get another song from the year I was born, making us both 65. Wow. I’m still young and this song is so old!
Here’s the next song on my list of favorites from 1960.
#8: Lonely Weekends - Charlie Rich
Charlie Rich started out in rock and roll, and he really didn’t venture all that far from it. Yes, I know he had a mass of country hits in the 70s, and he’s in the Country Music Hall of Fame. But this isn’t country. Not even by today’s standards!
No, Rich sounded a little like he was channeling Elvis in this one. He could do that, because Elvis was still in the Army in early 1960.
I haven’t found any evidence of Elvis doing a Charlie Rich impersonation to retaliate.
This is a bopping good rocker with, granted, a country theme (oh, boo hoo, I don’t have my girl anymore). Nothing like what he did in the 70s.

I know Charlie Rich but nothing about his lonely weekends.

He didn’t have a lot of major hits until the 70s, but I like his 60s stuff better.

Yes, that was a typo. Thanks for pointing it out. I corrected it. And I agree, this is a great song. I tend to like this era of Charlie Rich more than his “big hit” days in the 70s.
