Oh wait. . . they are still doing peace talks? I thought Trump was going to end the war on Day 1 of his presidency just like he was going to bring down the price of eggs and other groceries. I was told it was going to be SO EASY. Marco Rubio said something similar about "walking away" from the peace talks a couple of days ago. This is basically just an admission that their efforts are a failure. Trump wants to give Russia everything that they want because he is Putin's b!tch. Ukraine has already said that they won't agree to officially cede Crimea to Russia. The Ukrainians have been bravely fighting and defending themselves for 3 years now. They aren't going to just give up and give in to what Putin's puppet wants. The EU has stepped up support for Ukraine since Trump and Vance have been signaling that they will stop all assistance. MAGA idiots in America are all for stopping Ukraine military aid. They also claim to be anti-war but they are too stupid to understand that if Ukraine falls then the US will be involved in WWIII due to our NATO obligations. I had to explain this to a coworker's son a couple of weeks ago. He parrots his father's MAGA talking points. I take the time to try to explain the reality of what he is actually talking about. He had no idea what NATO even was.

The problem is that with budgets being stretched most nations cannot continue giving Ukraine the level of financing a war against the Russians needs. The EU have no choice but to step up aside for Ukraine as this war is on their doorstep. America does contribute more to NATO than any of the EU nations and recently called out EU nations to contribute more. I think Zelensky upset Trump quite a lot and I don't see Trump acktracking on this. I don't think WW111 will happen because of this - I think it would have happened by now if it was going to happen at all. There has to be peace very soon. It's in everyone's interests. Sadly I don't think Putin or Zelensky will concede what the other wants. Russia don't want NATO on their doorstep. Ukraine want a buffer zone to deter Russia aggression. My bet is this, part of Crimea will be ceded to Russia and Ukraine will get some sort of energy and trade deals from Russia and the EU to appease them. It has to be something that suits both sides. As for America as a peace broker, Trump and Vance, eh no!!

The US and EU need to back Ukraine. They aren't asking for military forces--just supplies and financial aid. If they fall then yes we will be in WWIII b/c Putin will roll into Poland, Estonia, Moldova, pick a country. Then Article 5 of the NATO treaty will be invoked.

@NJChicaa I think it's the financial aid bit that is a bit of a stumbling block in some EU countries and possibly America too. People see the cost of living going through the roof and don't really appreciate the governments they elected dishing out money in Billions to Ukraine on top of the foreign aid given to developing nations. They can't see the wood for the trees so are not going to appreciate that helping Ukraine is important. I know in the UK people faced with "heat or eat" do feel quite strongly about this given the government they elected almost immediately cut off assistance for the senior citizens for energy costs. The government now feeling a backlash of public sentiment , which is not restricted to the UK, have tough choices to make and short termists don't see assisting Ukraine as their priority. Putin won't roll into Poland or the Baltic States. He cannot afford too. What does surprise me is the fact Russia didn't just roll over Ukraine and take Kiev in the early days of the Special Operation in Ukraine.

@Ineeddentures I continue to be impressed by the brave Ukrainian warriors whether they are the people still living their lives, the grandmothers telling Russians to put sunflower seeds in their pockets, military members telling Moskva to go F itself, and all of those soldiers who are fighting to defend their land. Putin *definitely* will move into a Baltic state if Ukraine falls. Then we all wind up in World War 3. The US should well be able to afford continued aid to Ukraine after Elmo's insane DOGE cuts. . . right? Didn't he save the country so much?
