One potato, two potatoes...

So, today being warm and sunny and not raining, I worked on garden bed #3. I dug it over and added more soil to raise the bed. This was where I've been planting my potatoes for a few years, and I thought I had dug up all that were there last year, but nope, I managed to uncover two potatoes. They're firm and I had thought of having them for my dinner tonight but ended up eating a bag of veggie chips instead. And some Peeps for dessert.

That usually happens to me with carrots. I always think I have them all dug up, and then the following spring I find a couple of little strays. I've never attempted to eat them, I just toss them out under the tree for the endless rabbits we have running around...or the geese, or the squirrels, or whoever wants it and gets to it first!!

I had some carrots survive the winter and they seem to be doing ok.

@MarieCoyle Well, they're roots... grass and trees survive the winter, why shouldn't carrots?

@BarBaraPrz It’s strange in a way that they can survive but they can.

I would call it a treasure for gardeners. Something unexpected.

@BarBaraPrz I had that excitement of digging out turmeric That which remained has now sprouted and I see plants.

I've never planted vegetables. That was always my mother's thing. I just plant flowers and attempt to make them grow.

Why not give it a go? Peas and beans are easy and don't have deep roots. You could grow them in a planter.

I wonder if you'd left them longer if they would have sprouted for you? Eww! You actually eat Peeps? Pretty eats them, too, and I always tease her about it.

I've had that happen with potatoes. Absolutely sure I've got them all but nope. More appear later.

@BarBaraPrz They burrow around in the dirt keeping just ahead of you.

It's strange how one can read something about someone else doing something which almost mirrors what they did. I need to top up a bed in the garden with more soil or compost which I weeded and dug over yesterday. Peeps? Never heard that one before.

Peeps are marshmallow confections in the shapes of chicks or bunnies.

I noticed some dill plants starting to come up. They seeded themselves last year. My tomatoes do that too, but I haven't seen any come up yet.

@BarBaraPrz I should at least walk out to the rhubarb and asparagus. That's usually first. Dill seeds all over the garden. My friend believes that dill is better than freshly planted
